Hey Homer.....It was 2011.....so not the current RCO of the year but Thanks!!!! :D Yup I will be at BSAVA sat/Sun this year exhibition only so will be wandering round the stands all the time!

My name is Ben and I am the BSAVA Congress Sales & Marketing Co-Ordinator.

Glad that you are coming to Congress, just thought I would clarify a few points and hopefully answer your questions.

CPD certificates are provided in all delegate bags and self certification is required. We do scan delegates into lectures and provided you are registered with the BSAVA website then you can access this information for your records. Further to this, we have recently had a discussion with AMTRA about SQP points and can confirm that Congress does counts towards these. AMTRA have informed us that all you have to do is send the information to them on the form that was provided for claiming points. You are also encouraged to send evidence of attendance (Congress Certificate) along with the form and AMTRA will then assess what points can be claimed.

Overall, there are a total of 72 lectures over 13 streams throughout the 4 days of Congress with podcasts available to BSAVA Members after the event which can also count towards your CPD. On top of this, there are a series of practical sessions covering a range of topics. In fact, if you spend a good amount of your time at Congress in the lectures, as well as getting about the exhibition, then you can pick-up all your CPD requirement for the year very easily – and you can extend Congress to last all year if you are a member and tap into the online lecture podcasts. all dependant on the number of lectures you attend. if it's like prev years you have to fill in the cert that is in your bag yourself...but try and be honest with it

At last years BSAVA they scanned you into lectures as you went through the door but if you stayed in the lecture hall for the next lecture you did not get re-scanned. You get a certificate with your delegate bag on the first day but you fill in the certificate yourself. This is different to BVNA congress where you get your certificate sent to you two weeks after the event with all the lectures you got scanned into printed on your certificate.

I think BSAVA offers the best value for money particularly if you are there for the full four days.

I don't know how bsava are doing it these days, but I went to the London Vet Show in November and had to have my badge scanned into every lecture to prove that I had attended and at the end of the day was able to get a CPD cert printed for 6-7 hrs cpd per day.

28 hours. (max 7 hrs per day permitted, times 4 days.) Remember, documented self-study is permitted (not for the whole cpd requirement, of course.) Write down the time you spent reading veterinary books, science articles, or learning how to do something from your head nurse.

When I went to the BSAVA, I believe I put it down as 7 or 8hrs a day, as I was spending the equivalent of a working day attending lectures and doing other vetty things - even going to stalls and finding out about new stuff is all learning, in my book! I was one of the people who had my CPD record checked too, and they didn't question it, so I assume it's acceptable to put this amount down.
