Im planning on going to Australia for 6 months end of the year or early next year. Id like to get some work experience as well as do some travelling.
Has anybody else done a similar thing? Any Advice on how i should go about getting a

Re: Anyone got any experience of working in OZ?

Just thought I would update on the information I found about Australia and anyone that is interested in the same question I asked about sponsorship.

I think the only chance is the working holiday visa. Sponsorship will be tough. To get sponsored the employer has to pay you a minimum salary of $51,400. That will be very hard for a veterinary nurse to get as their salary is around $40,000. So no chance of getting an extra $11,400 when Australian nurses are cheaper.

Now I have to decide if a year is worth it or not.

Re: Anyone got any experience of working in OZ?

I done this a few years back, and I loved it!!
You can locum, like here in the UK. Use the Kookaburravets.com website
For jobs tho, clinics advertise directly!
Work isn't much different, but clinics can vary from very quiet to super busy!
Anything else you need give me a shout!!
Good luck

Re: Anyone got any experience of working in OZ?

Australia's Working Holiday program provides opportunities for
people aged between 18 and 30 years to holiday in Australia and to
supplement their travel funds through short-term employment.

The visa allows a stay of up to 12 months from the date of first
entry to Australia, regardless of whether the holder spends the whole
time in Australia. There is an optional 12 month extension available for
individuals that have completed three months specified work in
designated rural areas of Australia.

Any kind of work of a temporary or casual nature is allowed, but
work for more than six months with any one employer is not permitted.

Working holiday visa holders are entitled to study or embark on a training course for a maximum of four months.

Individuals may be subject to medical checks prior to coming to
Australia particularly if seeking employment in healthcare or teaching.
Applicants will be informed by the online application system if they
require medical checks.

The Australian working holiday visa is only available to eligible
candidates once in a lifetime, although by undertaking work in a
specified industry in regional Australia, it is possible to gain
eligibility to an additional 12 month working holiday visa.

From what I understand you can go over on the WHV but what about after? Is it easy to get sponsored if you wanted to stay? Has anyone any experience of getting sponsorship?

Also, I am at the upper age limit for the WHV, so I have to decide in the next few months. I would like to have a plan of some sort, preferably sort myself with work as soon as possible. Are there any agencies to send my cv? Or would it be better to apply directly to veterinary clinics?

Also, I hear Australia is very expensive. What are the wages like? Can you live on it?
