I very much doubt that this will have an impact on your training or registration, and I suspect nothing will need to be done. However, as the offence involved drug use it may involve some further checking/observation. But please don't worry so much - these procedures are in place to look after you, not punish you further!

I am not sure if this will help but take a look on the RCVS website under VN Council meetings. if you down load the pdf file of all that went on and look at page 6 - it is about disclosing or not disclosing convictions so maybe RCVS are the people to ask

Sounds very harsh to me, you are obvioulsy trusted by the practice and how is anyone supposed to put past mistakes behind them if this sort of thing is going to happen.

just be honest with them - I know a human nurse with credit card fraud offence . Hope it all works out for you

Hopefully not - I know someone who is a human nurse and had shoplifting offences when they were young so stay positive. Hopefully the RCVS will take into account people can change.

Ok so update...the person was mistaken you do not need to do CRB check but you do have to declare any caution warning conviction etc even if you were young or it's spent etc so now have called up royal college and someone's calling me back...I'm almost certain they're going to say I can't nurse and this is heartbreaking! I'm hoping they listen to me and allow me to do training if I've been honest with them...has anyone been in a similar situation? :/ or know anyone who has? Feels a bit like end of the world at the moment...

I think they are a good idea but the question is how many will be required? Before getting accepted on a veterinary nursing course again before qualifying and who will foot the bill for the disclosure. I agree Sal some of the places I have worked place great emphasis on them - and advertise all our staff are CRB checked - well yes but that could be last week, last year are 20 years ago.

I wouldn't like to think as a lecturer or vet i,d let someone with animal creulty offences on to a course or given them a job. Plus we encounter children and vunerable adults in practice. Downside their only really valid on day off issue.

I,ve had loads of CRB checks for jobs, DOE Award leader and event 1st aiding however i was rather annoyed when I achieved my prescribing qualification being told I must fork out £56 to join protecting vulnerable groups scheme which the trust do not fund or I could use my qualification in practice. I was fuming!

I have had a few CRB checks now for various jobs. On the whole I think they are a good idea but they are by no means foolproof and I do worry that too great a value is placed on them. If they are now a requirement then surely they should be requested at the start of training not on qualification

I had to have a CRB check when I became a Clinical Coach due to working with young people and students, but I don't think you need a CRB check when you register as an RVN. This is news to me. As the others have said, check with whoever said this originally.

When I started my ODP course I had to have a CRB check (paid for by my uni) and a doctors report to say that I wasn't a serial killer (as asked for by the Allitt report). This was to protect the public as I would be working with then in a vulnerable state. However, I'm not sure who told you about needing a CRB check for veterinary nursing as it should not apply, unless it is something that is now required due to needing to be registered. I think it would be highly unfair to go through all of that training and not be able to register - maybe double check with whoever told you it was required.

Just as an aside who is going to foot the bill for the CRB check - let me guess that would be the nurse - something else for them to fork out

I think it depends on the level of check required - the enhanced check is more detailed and shows past convictions, can't remember if it has cautions as well and i,ve had lenty done for various jobs and courses! but as has already be said you were a child at the time

As far as i'm aware there is no offical CRB check carried out however you are required to declare convictions (no sure if this includes warnings) at registration and every year at renewal. As the above posts say probably best to check with the RCVS.

We've never been told that we will need a CRB check when we qualify. Deffo ring BVNA - they'll know for sure. At the end of the day if it does show up you have 7 yrs of good behaviour to your credit and I'm sure there's routes of appeal you can go down if it does cause you a problem (which I'm sure it won't).

If it makes you feel any better I know of two girls who are now a similar age to you (they're not SVNS) who had actual juvenile convictions (one for theft, one for ABH) and neither of those showed up on adult CRB checks.

As previously said, BVNA would be a good place to call for advice. I didn't need a CRB check in order to register and I've not heard of this before.

Hi thanks for reply, no was never charged with anything and police told me would be wiped from records when I turned 18 but have recently found out this isn't true!! CRB check will show it up, I've had them before when I worked at the airport and it was never mentioned so didn't think anything of it but very scared will do my training and then in 2years time won't be allowed on the register! :( don't really know who to call and ask...

So if you had a final warning i`m guessing that you weren`t charged or convicted with anything? Am sure you`ll be grand especially as you were only 15 at the time but ditto what the others said and seek professional advice to put your mind at rest.

This seems wrong to me - surely a CRB check if it is going to be done should be done at the point of entry ie when you start training not when training has been completed? If you are not with the BVNA I would contact your local CAB on this its confidential and free

Try not to worry, you were 15. Are you a member of BVNA? maybe ring there legal line and ask their advise, i'm sure they'll be able to help : )
