Hey Guys
I was just wondering if any one could give me some advice. I feel I have just hit the wall in the practice I am in at the moment. I feel depressed and and not wanting to turn it, I have no issues with any of the people I work with (I think

Re: hit the wall

Thanks for the clarification. I've read up on the legislation (RCVS guidance notes are very helpful) and it is up to the individual to opt out, or a business can form a 'workplace agreement' to opt out, which requires the signatures of employees. There is no mention of the veterinary profession as a whole having opted out, although there are exceptions within the regulations where the business is mainly agricultural. I will be better prepared for the next practice meeting!

Re: hit the wall

Opting out is individual, not collective.

Re: hit the wall
The subject of working time regulations was brought up at a recent practice meeting I was at and I mentioned that employees had the option to 'opt out' but was told that the profession as a whole opted out when it was first introduced so working time regulations don't apply to the veterinary profession. Has anyone else heard this? I'm not too familiar with all the legislation.
I think this is a load of rubbihs, it applies to every worker who has the right to opt out and then opt backin at any point they wish. I would need to see something in writing to this effect to believe it.

I thought it was down to each individual company to decide but could be wrong. I was working for Vets Now when all that was happening and we got called individually and asked what we preferred. Thank god most people felt the same way and they opted out of it as we would have ended up having to work split shifts which would have started and ended at stupid o`clock..

Re: hit the wall

Sal is right and if you give yourself a little treat to look forward to everyday, in my experience, that certainly helps.

Now this likely sounds a bit lame / weird but one of my treats is to allot myself time, and give myself timely permission, to go to the loo. I am guilty of putting it off coz of being so busy working and then really rushing to get it over with when I do go (which is bad for the body, yes?!). So, I go in and just sit down, close my eyes, think of all the happy and cute things / animals I know and breathe slowly and deeply. No-one should disturb that 'me' time (well, it can happen but you just respond with a 'be out in a few mo's' ...!). I find it helps me to calm down and relax a bit. I also have some aromatherapy spray with me (for the obvious reasons of course(pooh stinky?!) but moreover it assists me in relaxing...)

Take good care of yourself honey.

(I would like to mention that some practice owners are great and change is possible, but they are very few!)

I have found more benefits to changing practice and that your happiness is more important than a job. The lovely people you work with will not suddenly vanish should you change jobs either and I'm sure they will be very supportive. Don't let yourself get too down.

Re: hit the wall

Yeah I opted out but i have not had a contract in this line of work where I haven't.
first thing that comes to mind, did you opt out of the working time directive when you signed your contract??

The next thing is I'm a firm believer of: if you're not happy get looking and move on. I have done this several times since I started nursing and now I am in a job that I really enjoy (99.9% of the time ) I have been here for 5 and a bit yrs now and don't think I will change at least not unless something drastic happens!

Hugs and hope you find yourself in a better position x
