At my current place we have a nice system too (except for the wall mount!! AAAARRRRGGGHH)
we use the coloured instrument tape at the connection bit: (eg. size 2.5: blue, 3: blue and white, 3.5: white, 4: 1/2 green-1/2 red etc.)
but we keep the small sizes (up to 5.5 I think) on a separate and different rack than the bigger tubes (size 6 and up) and therefor can use the same colour combi's on the two different groups.
I'm finding this very good as the number tend to wash off over time as well, where as the tape stays on well

Re: organising et tubes in a drawer
Sorry, may be being stupid but what does this mean?!!
No, not being stupid. That is just some code that appears if you cut and paste text from another application (usually Microsoft Word) into the forum WITHOUT using the 'paste from Word' feature (which has an icon of a clipboard with a W on it), located above the text entry box where you usually type a forum reply.

Re: organising et tubes in a drawer
0

Oak Barn Vets bundles et tubes in storage trays. I’ll post some photos as soon as they send them across to me so you can see
what their storage looks like.

You could also organise the et tubes using a tray insert,
similar to the cutlery tray idea, but these inserts come in different sizes and
are made to fit the trays perfectly. You could even use different trays, all labelled for quick identification, to organise different types of et tubes. Trays
(drawers) can be moved from the storage units directly into mobile
trolleys which makes the storage quite flexible, practical and useful.

Here’s a link to our website if you’d like to see our Vet
storage solutions. http://www.gratnellsveterinary.com

We’re happy to hear feedback and to also come up with new
storage ideas to solve your challenges. I hope this was helpful.

I moved them from there into a slightly larger drawer and split them up into 4 compartments using Ikea dividers that I found in the back of a cupboard. The bigger tubes are still awkward to get out though and you cannot be 100% of what size you are picking up until you read the tube (the drawer is really too small).

I have also seen upside-down, long, v-shaped cardboard pieces used as horiontal dividers and labelled with the sizes. Worked better than my method but you need a decent width of drawer.

Re: organising et tubes in a drawer

There was some chat about cuffed vs uncuffed on here a month or two back, do a search in the sesrch box (top right) for uncuffed or similar to find it

Re: organising et tubes in a drawer

Oooh, nice idea Vicki, might try that one!

I use one of those metal trays for the big ones, and just put them back in size order; and a large kidney dish for the cat ones.

Whilst we're on the topic of ET tubes - what's the latest on using cuffed tubes in cats? I was always taught NEVER use a cuffed tube on cat due to fragile trachea etc, and always used Portex uncufed (also get bigger internal diameter on these) but where I am we do use the cuffed ones..

Re: organising et tubes in a drawer

For cat sized tubes we use an old syringe box (deep square one not a long one) or similar and poke holes in the top.
