Got this from the BBC today - it's not their fault and none of the animals were at risk/hurt etc. So it's fine to give cats beer everyone - glad the BBC has endorsed that one for us

Thank you for contacting us regarding 'Animal Antics', broadcast on BBC One.

We understand you had concerns that the programme included clips of cruelty to animals, which we raised with the production team behind the show.

"We’d like to take this opportunity to apologise for any offence caused by the programme 'Animal Antics'.

The footage used within the programme came from a number of different sources such as YouTube and various archive libraries. Although we were not directly responsible for the filming of that footage, I can assure you that the production thoroughly researched every clip included in the programme to ensure no animals were harmed or distressed at any stage.

It is also important to point out that the majority of clips were edited prior to their inclusion in the programme. Watching these clips in their entirety gave the production a much clearer understanding of the footage and the treatment of any animals featured. This was a major factor in our decision making process.

We also had a constant dialogue with the owners of the clips and if we were ever in any doubt as to the treatment of the animals featured in the clip we refused to use the footage. If any footage was filmed at a zoo or safari park we would thoroughly research that organisation to ensure that they met all necessary standards regarding the care and up-keep of animals.

If we were in any doubt about content we would make every effort to research that content further. I can assure you that we would never broadcast any footage if we felt the health of the animal or animals involved were in any way at serious risk.

I’d like to apologise again for any offence caused.”

Stupidly I didn't keep a copy!! Both BBC and RSPCA make you fill in web forms and I never thought to copy and paste it into Word. I could however write another one for ppl to sign, although I'm not sure how I'd upload it on here, or if Arlo would mind?? What do other ppl think? If general conciousness is yes lets all sign a letter then I could certainly type one out, or perhaps ppl would like to do their own webforms for the BBC?

If you'd like to fill out your own form the programme was on BBC1 at 5.30pm, Sat 19th Jan.

What a waste of time! well done for complaining but sounds like it has fallen on the 'deaf ears' of the RSPCA also never mind the BBC!

Thankfully I didn't watch it and I don't want to watch it. I will just get angry! To those who have seen it, perhaps go onto Twitter? Your voice will be noted. I would but as I haven't seen the show, I'm not the best person to twitter my opinions as much as I want to...

but you can bet your bottom dollar that if enough people did complain and it became a real issue for the BBC then the RSPCA would be in there like a shot passing comment on how appalled they are in every newspaper that will print it, - excuse me for being cynical

I think what's upset me most was the owners videoing their dogs pain. The Bull-type was quite obviously neuro and the lab looked arthritic and just couldn't walk on a laminate floor. If if were my lab I'd be grabbing towels to put down not reaching for the video camera. Sick ppl. The cat's drinking from beer bottles just seriously got me riled. I filed my complaint under the heading "cruelty" - hopefully they'll have a serious look at it.

Sigh. Depressingly familiar. Stuuuuuupid humans, suffering animal. Good on ya for complaining to the BBC. I am glad I didn't see it as I would likely have thrown my tv out the window. Without opening the window...

Grrrrrr.

(Are you the same as me...? when my hubby watches, for example, a cowboy film I am always shouting at the screen "Oooh, arrrrgh, that poor horse" when they fall down or made to buck. Don't care about 'artistic licence' or 'dramatic effect' or whatever it's called. It's NOT right... I can just about handle CG dramatics coz I know it's not a real animal, (like in War Horse), even so, I cringe, cry and whinge...should have heard me during Avatar, (okay I know both CG and fantasy...but I truly can't help myself...). Soft as, me.

In summary: I am 100% in agreement with you complaining. Well done Katie.
