I need to source a B12 supplement for a cat. Can use a human one I suppose but just wondered if there was one kicking around that was especially well thought of for cats?
Or dogs I guess, this cat is 31kg....

Re: B12 supplement for cats?

Yeah, i meant TLi, was having a moment..

Low, cheetah normals 300 - 800, hers were 270something. I realise what you are saying aboutvabsorbtion but in our situation you sometimes need to try the most hands-off thing first.

Thanks all

Re: B12 supplement for cats?

Kim's right, prob not gonna help any as it needs to be absorbed through the gut and the reason you get low b12 is because of reduced absorption.

PLI wont tell you if there is pancreatic insufficiency anyway as it is a test for pancreatitis not EPI, you need TLI for that but can't help you as to how sensitive it would be in cheetahs.

are the b12 levels below normal or just low normal? also have you got the correct levels for cheetahs or are you working off feline results as this may differ as well.

Re: B12 supplement for cats?

Nope!

At this point we're unsure of whether it could be pancreatic insufficiency/disease or SIBO, basic plan was to throw a load of B12 into her in the hopes that it will increase her chances of absorbing some of it, unfortunately there is NO WAY we would get her into the crush more than once a fortnight, especially as B12 stings! Its actually low but not crazy low on the bloods... Bit of a frustrating one, especially as we're not sure if a feline PLi would be accurate in a cheetah...

If so then an oral supplement won't be any good as they are unable to absorb it hence why they are deficient in the first place. This us why it needs to be injected.

Re: B12 supplement for cats?

Ah.
