I've been trying to get just a voluntary position/work experience for 2 years so know how you feel. Have failed to secure a place on a full time VN course due to the lack of experience so it's a vicious circle. There are very, very few practices in my vicinity, but I keep trying!

I hope you manage to find something, given all the time and effort you have put into your voluntary work. Someone is bound to see that you are committed. :)

Edited to add: Have you thought about doing a VCA course at the moment? I know CAW do an online/distance learning course which is ideal if you are non-UK. And if your voluntary work is in place for the foreseeable future then you would be fit to go.

Medivet are always looking for nurses - Perhaps send in your CV to their Head Office?

They have many branches across the UK so it is worth sending a CV in as they often have training opportunities come up.

Thanks so much, this is the kind of feedback I was looking for. Yes I'm thinking I should give up on trying to find a training position, and just suck up the debt and go back to college full time.... scary as have already done college once, no work available in previous field, so have no money, now talking about not earning and self-funding college for another 3 years, just in the hope that get a poorly paid job in vet nursing - IF LUCKY to get job!!. then start paying back scary debt while earning not very much. And all just because I want to work in this area. god its a bit mad and scary!!

Thanks Alison. I'm like a stalker on the jobs board here, I check it about 15 times a day!! God help me if I ever actually got a job, what would I do then with all that spare time??? :-)

Does the loan help with managing house hold bills etc if you go on the full time course?

Learner loans will be available, and you only start to pay them back when you make over 21k. Odd but true!

In the same postion as you - I know there's no hope in hell in getting a paid student nurse placement tried when I was 17 was even hard to get voluntary experience then. Now i,m manging to get loads of voluntary experience. I will be leaving a reasonable paid job as a district nurse to train if i,m accepted. - I have been saving a wee bit for years so this is going to pay the fees for training as I,m not happy sitting around waiting for something I know will never come.

Like has been suggested career development loan could be considered. The situation i,d imagine will be worse in England once funding is cut - no incentive to recruit people 24 and over! Making it even harder.

thanks, you are right, I am realising this is not going to happen just by sending out cvs. and i am not entitled to a loan. so am looking at begging/borrowing/stealing to fund it myself and doing the whole 2/3 year return to education thing! aargghh!!!
