I have just moved to Canada from Ireland on the 23rd of December and just had an interview for an all cat hospital today which I am delighted about so hopefully it went well and I hear from them soon.
I was just wondering about the anaesthetic

Re: bain coaxial system for feline patients

Hi Alison, (great name by the way...hehe!)

Never seen a mini coaxial lack myself...never heard of one either... but if it was a coaxial circuit then the inspirational tube in the bain is on the inside tube and for a coaxial lack its the outside tube. So it could've been either. That info doesn't explain what u saw though...without getting your hands on the circuit I guess it will remain one of those unsolved mysteries, frustrating!

Sorry to hear u didn't get the job - - - they obviously missed your wealth of talents, eh?

I actually have Canadian citizenship so its easier for my unfortunately. My boyfriend is moving over though next month and he's not a canadian citizen and because I havn't lived with him for over a year I can't sponser him. He is applying for the working holiday visa which would give him 24months in Canada but they havn't started taking aplicants for 2013. I think if your under 30 you can apply for this.

check the canadian embassy page and go to international experience on the left hand side, that will tell you all about the working holiday, it says it takes 8 weeks. One word of advice, don't go with any companys like global visas because my boyfriend just paid 600euro for a visa and now they won't answer his calls or anything.

Now onto nursing I looked up jobs on the oavt website there seems to be a lot of postings for the toronto area! I am located in Whitby which is about 45mins from toronto. I didn't apply to any jobs before I came but im my area alone there are 10 small animal vets and I had an interview with one just last week. the veterinary industry seems to be growing here. I have to get my qualifications assessed here though to work as an RVT so I think it will be much easier to get a job once my qualifications are assessed and I can register over here.

I hope this helps and if you have anymore questions just ask

Re: bain coaxial system for feline patients

Hi Alison,

I have often thought of moving to Canada from the UK, mind if I ask how you did it? What kind of visa did you get and how long did the process take, did you research nursing jobs in the area you were going to before you got there?

Sorry for all the questions, hope you don't mind my curiosity!

Thanks

Re: bain coaxial system for feline patients

thanks for your replys just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one who went by this theory. Maybe it is there for something else I just found it strange that it was connected to the machine. oh well if i get the job maybe I can have a closer look!

thanks for ur good wishes

Re: bain coaxial system for feline patients

It's not a coaxial lack is it? Or if its a Bain maybe they keep one spare in case of dog emergencies (sounds silly I know but having worked in a cat only practice where someone rushed a collapsed Beagle in it wouldn't surprise me!).

Good luck with the interview!

Re: bain coaxial system for feline patients

We would only use our Bain on patients over 10kg. We tend to use a mini lack or a t-piece for smaller animals.
