I have done a variety of things whilst working as a full time RVN to make additional money. I have been a waitress (which I love), barwork, made boxes in a factory, worked on a till in a shop and locum nursing.

I still locum now as it is better pay and I can chose when I work.

Time management was so important and it was hard work. I used to start at 8am in practice, went straight to the resturant after work and then worked until 11pm. I did this for a long time. The non-veterinary places I worked were all very understanding and fine that if I was called in on an emergency, then I would have to go. Luckily it only happened 3 times in 4 years.

I think locumming at weekends would be your best bet. You may have to travel, but the work is out there.

You could register with an agency for waitressing work at outside catering events (I've done this for years) you get to go to some fabulous houses, or big events like races, sporting events, air tattoos or music festivals, it's a change from nursing but you can pick and choose the dates as the work does not have regular hours, they call and give dates and you say yes or no.

A friend of mine distributed leafets for local estate agents and offered pet sitting/house sitting services in addition to working full time as an RVN. They fitted in with spare time and allowed her to chose her own days/times. Didn't pay brilliantly but was that little bit extra at the end of the month.

Do you have any bits and bobs to do a car boot sale or anything? One persons rubbish is another persone treasure and all that...

If you don't mind giving up a weekend or two, locuming does pay reasonably well.

Does your present employer need additional assistance with anything you can 'volunteer' (not unpaid of course!) to help with? You could ask to do the extra hours on a non-contractual basis (i.e. non permanent!). This would fit in with your existing rota as your employer has a vested interest in making it fit...plus you drop or pick up the hours as it suits you and your employer...

Other than that...er, cleaning jobs? As far as I can make out, they seem to be very well paid. (Where thars muck thars brass!)...

envelope stuffing? - it dont pay fantastically, but in saying that it isnt overtaxing on the brain cells either. you can do it at home at times to suit you
