We also offer a Community Vet nurse service where we go out into the community and do house visits for people who cant get to the practice easily such as the elderly , we in effect take nurse clinics to peoples homes.

Also, one of the first places people look for a new vet clinic is google, so make sure you have an up-to-snuff website. Doesn't need to be all singing all dancing, but basic prices, staff, map, emergency numbers, and pictures is a great start.

How about giving pet talks for children at local schools, making sure to give the children a take home goody bag with something like a branded fridge magnet.

we have just had quite a bit of building work done and have a new vet starting middle of next month so I am planning an open evening too. Used to do these a lot when working for charity. Guided tours with a few nibbles and a few competitions ( doesnt need to be complicated - could be guessing the number of jelly beans in a jar or pictures of fleas in the waiting room, a tombola )usually went down well, tap your reps for freebies ( and having read this they will now be avoiding me like the plague ) involve one of the charities your practice supports as well if you can, and then they can help you keep an eye on folks whilst you do your tours. Use them as an opportunity to introduce members of staff to the public and show off what your practice has. If you have a free 'whats on' for events on your local radio make sure you use it .
