I only worked there a week! was hell and i,m a veggie so nothing for me - Wouldn't eat out of there if paid.

I did find it strange on one of the VN ads I seen - plenty of biscuits!

I am really put off RVN ads that say something like..."love cake?" or "plenty of cake on offer". Like that is what is important when looking for a job. GRRRRRR!

Me too..if a practice pays well then they shouldn't be afraid to advertise it ..when they don't mention it I assume they mean "competitive" as in competitive with working in McDonalds

When I was looking to transfer jobs I found it most frustrating not to be aware of the salary and any benefits prior to approaching the advertiser as I had a minimum (bearing in mind travel costs and paying a mortgage etc). Of course this is not the only aspect, but it is an important one. There are precious few job ads in vet nursing that actually do detail this aspect (e.g. well done, in my book, to the PDSA who advertise a salary range). I spent some wasted time (both for the employer and me) querying/applying for vacancies, and on one occasion even going for an interview, that were clearly unsuitable in this respect. I had one prospective employer baulk at me asking what the salary range was, as if this didn't matter and how crass of me to ask. I am polite. I am professional. I have to pay bills! Guess what I am saying is, don't be afraid to say what you pay and you might find this generates more interest?

you say you offer a competitive salary....do you actually state what that is?

Have you had a look at the wording of your advert...maybe a re-jig of the wording might help and attract someones attention?

It's a nightmare we did advertise in the Vet TImes etc no joy just got ANAs replying. I'm am more then happy to train students but desperately need another VN to support the general day to day. It's a shame! Ridiculous that you couldn't get a job we would've snapped you up!

I couldnt find a job, and I was an RVN! Locum agencies were not interested as I had been out of practice for 7 yrs.

er lets see - could it be that a lot of practices got fed up of jumping through all the hoops and the expense of training staff only for them to sod off at the end of it to go and work for referral, or repping , or teaching or management or locuming because they didnt think they were being paid enough/ being allowed to do what they wanted and there appears little or no loyalty to the practice anymore?or is it because the VN training doesnt actually provide the training that many of the practices want and they have lost confidence in it? or is it the 'attitude' that seems to be part and parcel of some of the trainees these days? or is it because there is no set in stone requirement for a practice to employ qualified nursing staff - take your pick!

My advice is to just keep advertising. We always struggle to employ RVN's - it's just a question of whether somebody is looking for a job in your area, there will be at some point but if your advert isn't out there they won't see it. We do sometimes have to use agencies but that ofcourse comes at a cost, but many RVN's use them these days to find both perm and locum work.
