Leading on from this, someone posted a thread (and someone else has contacted me privately) about VetNurse members being banned from a pet forum elsewhere.

I'm really disppointed when I hear that, and it's not the first time (there was that big hoohah in the mrsa forum a few years ago).

To my mind, if you present yourself as a nurse on another forum, you should at all times make sure that your posts elsewhere are polite and curteous and NEVER rise to inflammatory posts about nurses or vets posted by members of the public. Instead rise above it and reply in a PROFESSIONAL manner.

When you reply, remember that you may be replying to someone with real concerns, regardless of how aggressively they express those concerns. Be understanding. If someone posts something inflammatory, take pleasure in retaining the moral high ground, and not being hostile in your reply. Use a little humour to deflate the situation. BE PROFESSIONAL.

It's so important this. Nurses should be welcomed into pet forums, not banned! Furthermore, you must remember that when you tell people on another forum that you are a veterinary nurse (anonymously or not), it's not just you you're representing, but the whole profession. That carries with it a responsibility.

I agree Arlo which was why I never posted on the thread - didn't like the idea. When I first saw it I thought it was about gruesome accidents etc but on further reading I wasn't impressed.

Also read an interesting report in the paper the other day, about employees now being able to be fired because of posts or blogs written on websites, if they are comments made against the workplace.

People should bear this in mind on here - a lot of people use this site & its not always anonymous, we all know someone on here - directly or being able to deduct who they are from comments made. The veterinary world is quite small!!
