I did send you a private message Kayleigh =) but at the moment im doing the first aid and x-ray case studies, dont understand why they cant put some kind of basic how to guide on the vle.

So i asked my tutor for more guidance and if she could show me and example or something and basically the people who run the course have said that they're not allowed to put an example case study on the vle. seems completely over the top to me. Luckily the head nurse at my old practice had a nice kind of template for it which she emailed me.

Seems stupid that theyre not allowed to put it on as a case study isnt something many people are going to have done if theyre doing this course

Well its a full working week but on a volunteer basis. But I was hoping to get a "real" job at some stage as I can't stay unemployed/volunteering forever, so I'd have to put that off for 5/6 months to finish the VCA course

Hey, which VCA distance learning course are you doing? I'm considering doing one, but CAW require 600 hours of experience and since I'm on a voluntary basis, am a bit put off by committing to such a long timeframe with the people I'm with now..

It can be pretty tough, if you're only working once or twice a week - that said, the VCA is going to need that much time pretty much anywhere you do it. (Other VCA providers license it from us, so they use the same program and pay us a small royalty.)

I cannot speak for your provider, but here is what I would expect from a case study -

- Start by providing information about the patient (species, breed, age, weight etc.) - remember to omit ALL client details from your work and any supporting material like hospital sheets etc.

- What was the problem? How did the animal present? What was the vet's diagnosis? What was done to help reach the diagnosis? How did you help?

- How was the animal treated? What was your involvement?

- What was the outcome?

- Summary / Discussion - Show that you can reflect upon what you think went well, and what could have been done better. This is very important. Back up your ideas with researched information.

- Bibliography - try to read from, and quote from as wide a range of sources as possible to show broad understanding and research of the topic

- Appendices - e.g. monitoring sheets

This is just a basic overview of a case study, but as the others have said, I really think you should check with the provider, because case studies can be more specific depending on the subject, and the awarding body may have a particular framework that you should be using for your case study. I know this is the case with City and Guilds.

Can you ask your course tutor for a sample of how it could be laid out? Email him/her and ask for a rough template/guidelines, or for samples of other students' approaches so you get an idea of the level of detail required, complexity, how to go about it, etc. Obviously each one will be tailored to the individual merits of each case so its not a case of copying - they shouldn't be concerned that you would plagarise their work!

How about your DLT (Distance Learning Tutor?) They're available to ask questions from and if you're not sure what exactly they're looking for in a case report, ask them - it's not a stupid or silly question, I promise!

Yeah i do have a mentor but i have asked her and the info she gave me wasn't great and shes got a trainee nurse who is retaking her exams atm as well as a qualified vn who is doing some cpd that shes helping with. So shes very busy =/

hello :) sorry I never did the ANA or VCA course so not sure how these are set out but I know my nursing case logs I had to basically write down everything I did and why and essentially tick off certain criteria that I had covered in that case log against the book of standards/criteria I had to complete. Do you have a mentor/lecturer that can give you some guidance? sorry not to be of any help but wish you all the best! x

Just to be clear I am not asking for peoples work just an explanation of how to set it out and write one as it is something i have never done before. If that's why people aren't replying
