Just wondering if anyone knows of VN diploma courses starting in early 2013 for the full time VN diploma? Its probably unlikely that I'll get a training place between then and now so I'll pay to do the full time course (and can supplement

Re: Full time vet nurse diploma

Age can be a problem in getting a placement though, UK govt are offering a 1.5k subsidy to practices taking on students aged 18-24 so that rules me out. And I got turned down by another practice because they said I was already in posession of degrees, so that excluded me from some other funding.

Plus a few college are starting to provide training where they place students in training practices on an unpaid basis, so imagine that will reduce the mnumber of already few paid placements out there. Oh well, what can ya do (apart from continuing to clean kennels for free to get experience, and continue to send out applications).

that thats great that you are coaching 65 year olds though!
Hi Mark, I just checked with CAW and they don't do Jan starts for the full time course. Just got email back from head of admissions "Unfortunately our only January intakes are for the Advanced Apprenticeship in Veterinary Nursing for employed students on the day-release programme. Intakes for the full-time course are taken in September of each year."

Back to the drawing board for me so..... :-(

Its the 2 year full time option I was looking for, rather than day release where you need to be already employed - (1st year student jobs being kinda difficult to obtain!). CAW have started doing it this way where you don't need to be already employed in a TP, so you apply to a college as a full time student and they find the work placements for you. But unfortunately it seems to be Sept/October entry so thats a year away!! Wondering if any colleges do the full time approach but without having to wait til next Sept/Oct...

I can confirm that CAW does a January start for full time as well. (In terms of course delivery, it's the same one or two days in college and the rest in practice; the only difference is whether or not you're employed or a student.)

Kind regards,

However you still need a place in a training practice for a full-time course. Full-time means 2 days per week, with 3 spent in practice. As far as I'm aware most colleges still need yo to organise the employment/placement.
