I was wondering if anyone has dealt with poultry red mites on cats before? My friends cat has had these mites for a few weeks now and having tried various methods to get rid of the little *@$*s and thinking she was finally on top of them

Re: Poultry red mites on cats!! The poor wee thing was covered in them and they were all over me from just briefly holding her. Frontline certainly killed them on me when I freaked out & covered my clothes in it!! Horrible little things! I can totally understand why my friend is going insane with the whole thing!
In my experience frontline spray (not spot on) used at the same dose you would normally use for fleas works very well. We used to use it off license for red mite in chickens at a poultry research centre. Experimentally, I would also chat to a vet about trying lufenuron as well as the mechanism it works by should also be efficacious for red mite (although this has not been researched to my knowledge as practically it would be no good as lufenuron is detectable in eggs if used in chickens).
