Too much hassle after I contacted the rcvs. I'm used to gowning in work with the long ones so fingers crossed!

Re: Practical gowning help please!

Hi there, one of our students had a similar problem. Would advise
Contacting the rcvs as they let her take her own gown in the end x

Re: Practical gowning help please!

Hehe the NVS box comment made me chuckle, my other half asked if i can take a box in!

Oh i am pooping myself a little about it, just need to keep a clear head!

Thanks folks

Re: Practical gowning help please!

Does sound like a lot of hassle, it would be easier to provide an nvs box to stand on!
If you usually manage fine, I am sure it won't be a problem, try not to be too aware of it or you will end up doing something else disastrous instead, like touching your sleeve or ties to something.
Go for it, chin up! Good luck

Re: Practical gowning help please!

glad to hear you're gonna go for it :) good attitude :) good luck :) I'm only just over 5ft and I was ok, just make sure to keep everything 'up' to avoid bottom of gown touching the floor ie remember to keep your arms/hands up and stick your elbows out slightly to help keep gown up that's what I did anyway! good luck :)

ps

practicals really aren't as bad as you think they're gonna be, they are just like the practice ones, stay calm and be cool and you'll keep a clear head and you'll be fine :)

Re: Practical gowning help please!

Thanks guys, im just gonna go for it! Our work gowns are also really long, but I took one anyway, with the ribbons and safety pins as the ones at the exam are huge (I guess to account for bigger people...) I was really worried about this OSCE as I really struggle even with a standard sized gown, but I passed :)

Re: Practical gowning help please!

The only reason that they advise a short gown is because if the gown touches the floor at anytime during the task it is considered a break in sterility, therefore a fail. If you can confidently gown up in your surgical gowns from practice, without it touching the floor, then it should be fine. The pins and ribbons are to ensure that the gown which you supply fastens up in the same way that the gowns they use do; otherwise it may make the task more difficult to run smoothly. Also, the gown sleeves must be long enough to enable the cuffs to be enclosed in the gloves.

Please do persevere. Remember that the practical exams are the last hurdle; get over it and qualification is yours.

Re: Practical gowning help please!

Hello
