I have just completed the AVN at myerscough, and was the course rep too.... and I can hand on heart say despite two and a half years of very hard work, when I got my results I was so delighted, and its worth every tear! I cannot wait to get my badge in July....

I looked at it other day and it appeared to be 5k for the advanced diploma. Not sure of I read it wrong or not. Doesn't look like I'll be doing that any time soon.

You should go for it. I've just started my 2nd year at Harper Adams and I am really enjoying it. I think that course fees for higher education are going up considerately very soon (if not already). Get in there now before they do. They may be the difference of you doing it or not! Good luck.

HELLO!!!

Sorry its been a while, thanks again for all your positive vibes, I've handed in my proposal (!) to my boss so waiting to see if he'll help out with costs to get me through the course

Am looking to go to Myerscough as its closer to me and the course tutors have been super helpful in answering my endless questions. Send them a wee email and they'll let you know all the costs involved...tis an expensive business but it seems that its worth it!

I did it at Myerscough. It's a great course, it's hard work but I've completely changed my approach to nursing. I do more evaluating of what works and what doesn't work. I also look at the animals as a whole eg. the vets may say give this drug and that drug but I'm also asking what about food and water, cleaning them up, toilet breaks, evaluating for pain and reporting back.

I have just completed Dip AVN at Myerscough and it's definetly worth it! I completed it as an overseas student as I live in Ireland. I found the modules really interesting and all the tutors are excellent. You should definetly go for it. It is a lot of hard work but completely worth it in the end.

I say go for it !

I did the 'old style' diploma - I think the structure and setup of the modular diploma is MUCH better.

I got so much out of it - in so many ways.. never regretted it for a minute...

I am in exactly the same position as you!

I have printed out the application forms...trying to pluck up the courage to fill them in and then if i am accepted i will ask my bosses about funding.

Gulp! terribly scary and terribly exciting too!!

Thanks Claire. I think both are good courses, I liked the online learning more than I thought I would with the RVC. At the time only you were doing the RCVS one and I couldnt face the 6 hour drives!

Jane is right...you need to decide which course you want to do. Harper Adams and Myerscough College (where I work (and am course tutor for the Advanced Diploma) - thought I'd better say that before you think I am trying to sway you one way or another!) both run the Advanced Diploma course, and are both fully accredited by the RCVS - this means you get your Dip AVN blue badge qualification at the end of it all. The RVC qualification is a post graduate diploma course, but at the moment does not directly facilitate you getting your blue badge.

You need to go on the websites of each of the course providers and have a look at the modules and course structures etc and decide which you think would suit you and your needs best. Whichever you choose, I reiterate that I would definitely advise you go for it - you will get so much out of doing a qualification like these.

Do it! I would compare the options of RCVS course and RVC course. I did the RVC Postgrad Diploma and was really glad I did it.

I would say definately go for it. I work in a small village practice, one vet and one nurse (me) so I wouldn't have the case load, but given the chance I would do it. Good Luck!
