Thank you for the reply Ian - So if I paid my retention fee on the 1st Nov I wouldnt be penalised for a late payment? (it makes a big difference to me having it come out of next months wages rather than this months)

That's fine, not a problem - if your bank account hasn't changed since last year I've got the details saved in my online bank account, so I just log in anytime I like and put in the amount, send it. Takes a few minutes and haven't had any issues. (Done this for last three years and has worked quite well.)

Unfortunately, the system we currently use does not differentiate between credit cards and debit cards, so will apply the 2.4% fee for all card transactions. Obviously, this is not desirable, and we’re hoping to be able to change it as soon as we can. In the meantime, we encourage people to pay by credit card only via our website, or to use other methods such as online bank transfer, direct debit, or an old-fashioned cheque.

Dear All

The fee notice letters should be leaving the mailing house tomorrow, so will hopefully arrive early next week. Last year they weren't posted until 12 October, so we're actually a little ahead of ourselves this year!

In previous years, we have allowed a longer notice period, but found that a lot of people tended to put the reminder to one side as the fees weren't due for a while, and then forgot to pay!

The initial deadline for payment is 1 November, to allow time for registration cards to be produced and sent out for the beginning of next year. However, you actually have up to 31 December to pay your fees without risking your name being removed from the Register/List for non-payment. Please note, however, that the later you pay up to the final deadline of 31 December, the longer it might take for you to receive your registration card.

The letter and form you receive next week will set out how much you have to pay, depending on your individual circumstance, and different ways in which to do so. You can pay by credit card through the RCVS website (NB there's an externally levied cc fee of 2.4%), make an online payment using the bank details provided, or send us a cheque. I'm afraid we can't take payments over the phone for the time being. If you haven't already, you could also set up a direct debit, if that's easier for you.

You can also pay directly to their bank account - if you ask nicely via email they'll give you an account number, sort code, stuff like that. Put in your registration number in the "reference" box (or whatever your bank calls the "extra information" box) and pay it manually annualy. I don't do direct debit if i can help it; several colelagues of mine had significant issues with their direct debiting in this regard.

You can pay online - by direct debit. That's what I do.

but you can pay by credit card - that is possible - that isnt a problem (it will incur a 3% handling fee). If you dont have a credit card then it becomes a problem as the system isnt able to take debit card payments. Thats why I need to pay by cheque and allow enough time for it to get there - and I dont want to pay (even if I knew how much I am due to pay, which at the moment I dont) until I have checked my details as they will appear on the list, and my reason for this is that a letter sent to me by the RCVS very recently wrongly gives my postnominals as RVN which I am not

hope that clarifies the reason for my query it wasnt for having a dig at the RCVS it was a genuine enquiry

No reminder as yet, had a letter re direct debit of retention fees about a month ago but nothing else as yet.
