And I had never ever suffered fro it before either.

I now have a small patch on my shin about the size of a 5 pence piece. I used to have a bit on my knee that was quite big, but the sunshine cleared that up and also a big patch on my shin, but they have both been away fro about a year, and cleared up completely.

I have small bits on both elbows, but at the mo, they are not inflammed, just pink in colour and not itchy or tender at all.

Re: Psoriasis

I had it for ages and went to the gp about something else and asked him while l was there he looked said it was nothing to worry about he was sure. So many with psoriasis..... I know it's more common than people realise but it's almost got abit of a taboo about it. I have plaque psoriasis i.e. on knees and elbows mainly but there are occasions when it appears on my ankles and knuckle but only in small patches.

I know others have different types that are more disfiguring but I've had mine since before I was 11 and it has always made me more body consious. Mine comes and goes... have tried most things from steroid cream when I was younger, which isn't advisable long term (ST!) to coal tar soaps/ creams...useless!

One of the best things... but it's just remembering to take regularly, is daily doses of cod-liver capsules, Evening primrose capsules and a Vit E supplement.... over a period of time, a month or so... this nearly cleared mine up... and I have a huge permanent patch on one of my shins.... but I really struggle taking tablets/capsules etc so I get disillusioned taking so many of them.

I use to think mine was stress related but I don't think it affects it much now. Mine totally cleared up when I went travelling for 2 years to sunnier climes so that's something for people to try!!! That was probably sun related and could be stressful at times too, but a different stress to every day living.

Whether you have psoriasis or excema may be difficult to tell, depending on what type of psoriasis you have. I just know that mine sometimes drive me potty with the itching.... I often want to use a fork on it. it's that bad!!!!

I know I don't have the worst form of it, and you learn to live with it..... it's just very annoying!!

Re: Psoriasis

[quote user="STRVN"]

Psoriasis is on the fronts of limbs, elbows and knee's as well as the scalp, whereas Excema tends to be in the folds, IE- your inner elbow or crook of you arm, or the backs of knee, although you do get it on the fronts of fingers as well.I was under the impression that they were classic giveaways as to the difference, but obv your GP was off sick for that class

unfortunately they are in pretty much everything. they are a type of
preservative. They come in all shapes and sizes. mostly methyl-, ethyl-
and propyl-paraben. A lot of people have allergies to them. Some more
than others. My mother and I are those that suffer from them a lot!
They are usually in bathgels, shampoos, conditioners, face wash,
lotions, makeups(liquid and powder) and they are in some foods, but
i've not had any reactions with food only with topical. I use NUDE skin
care and REN, I also use Dr Hauschka, Aveda, Burtbees, Original Source
teatree body wash(lemon, mint, lime, lavender only), Some Head and
Shoulders, Some Herbal Essences. I never go to bed with wet hair or go
outside with wet hair if it's hot out. If I have a bath I rinse off
with fresh water. I also have to be very careful with hair dye from
salons, even if my skin test is ok my scalp is another story if there
are parabens in it. Sunscreen is another important one to watch.

Psoriasis is about what you put IN your body, not ON! Cut out all processed foods especially those with wheat, gluten or diary in them. Then cut out all acidic foods, such as oranges, tomatoes, pineapple, drink lots of water. Take calcium supplements, as psoriasis sufferers can develop osteoporosis, also take a vitamin D3 supplement - you have to trawl the internet to get this make sure it is D3 and not just vit D. As much sun as possible but remember to wear sunscreen, as our sking is more likely to burn.

I've been suffering for about 3 years with constant mis-diagnosis after mis-diagnosis. I've now started using the dreaded internet to gain information and have been trialling food exclusions. Raw veg seems to be better than cooked veg too.

She told me that the main reason for it is stress so take time to relax. once a month atleast maybe go to a yoga class, neck and back massage etc. Also have been told to go to a health food shop and try shampoo and conditioner with sea minerals and use selinum. And when you dry your hair dry it really well and make sure the scalp is completely dry. im going today to have a look in a health food shop to try whatever i can.
