Hope you are sitting down, its a long one!
I haven't seen such a young cat with this in practice before

Re: Best practice for homecare - teeth!

Oh I dunno, rotting for no reason seems pretty accurate! Right now after all his treatment, his mouth looks perfect... and yet, it seems he's going to loose this tooth :(

Yes I was afraid of the breed associated issues, space for the molars was definitely tight. I had hoped he might escape them as he is not one distinct type, but some sort of mix. Affectionately known as the 'Burmese barsteward'.

Any oriental sucess stories out there? We see a handful in practice, mostly siamese, the occasional burmese, no serious dental cases in the time I've been there.

Re: Best practice for homecare - teeth!

I haven't seen exactly what you're describing...but I think the breed has a lot to do with it. All orientals I see are just predisposed to awful teeth! We've recently had an oriental in about 3 times over 2 months as we had to remove all his teeth as they just started rotting for no reason whatsoever (no signs of FCV I must add). Was one of those classic cases of 'errm......it's idiopathic' as we could find NO cause at all. All teeth removed, cat is happy as larry. He's 5 years old!
