I fully appreciate that people who receive little input/attention etc., etc., will struggle more but that is still not an excuse for lack of self-regulation to some degree and upbringing cannot be used as an excuse forevermore by people. Your post made me contemplate how many people I know that would fit the description given and its quite a few but despite this none of them happen demonstrate quite the same level of vacousness . I think, as stated , that a death is sad, especially that of a young mother but I am not going to insincerely convinced to like or excuse someone post humously

Re: R.I.P Jade Goody

It is worth remembering that Jade had a different upbringing to the one most of us will have been lucky to have. I'm not talking about money or circumstances - just that she was shown no care or individual attention and, as we all know, her intelligence was low. She deserves sympathy for not only her death, but the life she was given. It is hard for others to understand anyone craving the attention that she did - good or bad - but maybe if we imagine a life with no attention from anybody, then perhaps it isn't that surprising. She often said that some of her happiest days were in the BB house - perhaps because someone was paying attention to her, and she felt included and important for the first time?

I also don't think she was racist. Just ignorant - in the true sense of the word.

Hi Angiy,

I have read your post, and agree with most of what was said but, and I may be one of the few, I dont think she was a racist, ignorant yes I will agree with that.

I remember the incident as I am an avid BB fan, and from what I saw of the situation at the time I believed there was an element of exclusion and bullying and probably jealousy to, but I never thought it was race related, more a dislike of the person and what they stood for (ie the cosseted upbringing, and the ignorance of the plight of her fellow countrymen/women). I took from the slum remark that was made, that is what Jade was pointing out.

I hate it when the media whip the public up into a frenzy over what I would consider stupid and ignorant remarks, rather than hate filled racism. But thats what the media do all the time,if they dont like someone they can almost always bring them down, and then build them up again like some maniacle(sp??) puppetmaster,I for one was not falling for that.

Maybe I missed something though, but I dont think so.

I am glad that this has drawn people's attention to the importance of smear tests and hopefully will save some lives..that said ( and I am about to be controversial here) it saddens me that we live in a society that makes so much of celebrity and bothers me even more in recent years the people we award that to . Its a terrible end for Jade Goody but it would be insincere of me to not maintain that she was ultimately an illiterate racist ignorant . I hate it when society vilifies someone one day but once they are gone are all sweetness and light about them. As my boyfriend extremely accurately put it the saddest tragedy is that she did the most good to society in dying and highlighting cervical cancer. Very sad but true

Re: R.I.P Jade Goody

didnt always agree with her - but nonetheless a really gutsy woman who has done a lot to hopefully save a lot of lives.

Re: R.I.P Jade Goody

Ditto to everything that has been said. She has been very brave, and I think that she has done brilliantly. I think that living her last few weeks in the public eye to raise money for her two young boys is amazing, if I was in the same situation, I too would do the same. I am pleased hear young women have been touched by her story and had smear tests
