The diploma is hard work and you have to have the cases that come in and the support of your practice as well (plus it's kind of expensive)

I am only just considering it now after being in practice for almost 10yrs and being qualified 6, sometimes I think you need that bit of time to settle into being qualified and getting a bit more experience before you rush into the diploma or anything like that.

Re: Veterinary nursing top up degree / cert in clinical vet nursing??

i do really wish to continue with education such as cpd but iv heard the diploma is really really hard work!

Re: Veterinary nursing top up degree / cert in clinical vet nursing??

Hi, I'm doing the Higher education VN to top up to diploma level. I'm considering the degree next but it's come at a time when babies are more likely.

The diploma is good though, you can choose your 2nd year modules so you can study in the areas of interest.

I'm just in the middle of completing the lovely assignments which is why i'm not in bed and distracted by other things!

I have learned a lot, it's opened my eyes to thinking for myself and not relying on vets to say do this do that. You become more proactive in recognising the patients needs on a nursing level and not just cleaning them out and giving them medications.

Hope this helps, i do believe there's a number of differnt ways to do the course now and would recommend every nurse to do some advanced training.
