I'm *thinking* of applying for a job at one....but I don't want to feel out of my depth.
It's going to be massively out of my comfort zone....I work in a small independant

Re: working in referall practices

i went from general practice to a practice that is part general part referal and the caseload is just ace!!!!

the vets are brill and help so much, i dont regret my decision at all and i am diong my diploma at the mo, which i think i would have struggled with at the general practice.

i wouls say go for it you wont look back

Re: working in referall practices

I have worked in referal. Itis true how quickly you learn things. I now work on a weekend in a referal practice and I must say the vets are amazing they talk to you like you are a person and they have the up most respect for nurses and you feel like part of the team rather than a cleaner. They like you to get involved in cases and give you their thoughts as well as asking for your input. However dont know if it is like that in all referal places

I do love refereal but I think I would find working in just referal frustrating as I would get bored easily. Which is why doing weekend shifts there and working in small animal practice I get balances of both worlds. But that is just me

I would defo go for the job- you will learn a hell of a lot particuallrly if wanting to do the Dip

Hope it goes well xxx

Re: working in referall practices

I have work'd in 100% referral for the past 5 years, before that i worked in 50/50 referral and 1st opinion for 2.5 yrs.

I would say its the best thing I've done. You definately get to use you nursing skills. Working with specialists. and getting to specialise yourself, further qualifivcations. Go for it I say. It maybe hard to start with, but I'm sure they will give you proper support. Any questions feel free to ask

Re: working in referall practices

I've worked in referral practices and went there from a regular vet hospital.
