Just saw this post! I work at Harper Adams in the veterinary nurse team but I am only loosely connected to the Diploma. I contribute to a couple of the modules on the diploma so I know a bit about it! If you are potentially interested, probably the best person to ask the questions of at Harper Adams is Sue Howarth who runs the diploma course (showarth@harper-adams.ac.uk ) or Erica Martin (who heads up our team) (emartin@harper-adams.ac.uk ). I am pretty sure that you can do it module by module - you can definitely delay enrolling with the RCVS for your diploma until you have done a few of the modules. The way Sue H runs it appears to be pretty flexible too as you can control how many modules you study at any one time e.g. you could choose to study only 1 module at a time for a year or so, then find you want to study fulltime so pick up more modules, then drop back down to half time, etc. I think several of our diploma students are on this site so you might be able to pick their brains as to how they find the workload!

Good luck and maybe I'll see you at Harper - I am the mad one who takes all her dogs to work and handrears pigeons in her office so you will spot me ....

Re: Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing

RVC aren't actually accredited for the Dip AVN so if you want the blue badge then you can't go through the RVC.

I'm not 100% sure if you can do it module by module at harper or myerscough but I would recommend giving them a ring and finding out

Re: Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing

i think you can do it module by module if you want, i know harper and RVC do this although correct me if I am wrong. that might be the way to go if you are worried about the workload

they recommend approx 15 hours a week to catch up with lectures/complete assignments etc, there are written exams per module (4 modules in yr 1, 3 in yr 2) with OSCE's at the end of year 2, that gets you the diploma in higher education clinical vet nursing then you have to do a 5000 word literature review with a viva on it at the end which gives you the DipAVN.

So in a nutshell, lots of work needed I actually put off applying a few times because I wasn't really in the right frame of mind for it

Hope it helps!!
