Let us know how you get on

Re: OSCE questions??

To be honest it sounds like you had a handful of strict examiners!! Where did you do your practicals? And are you going to the same centre next time round?

For anaesthesia I'm pretty sure I wrote l/min for mine, are you absolutely sure they failed you just for that one small error at the end? It depends on the examiner, 1st time I did my practicals I was recording time an injection was given and the lovely examiner reminded me to write 'PM' after otherwise I could have failed that!

Fluid therapy - it's a tricky one as they tell you not to waste fluid but to ensure it's patent you can allow 1 or 2 drops to fall from the end of the line. Then check for any air bubbles and tell them that's what you're doing. I talked my way through both attempts at my practicals and found it not only helped me but there was little chance for examiners to fail me for not doing somethine incase they weren't looking.

As for urine - again you got a tough examiner. I'm not sure what else they would expect you to comment on! Was it a dipstick? Did you comment on any abnormalities - they usually use apple juice so glucose records as being very high!

Hope this helps, I failed my practicals first time round but sailed through them second time as I knew what to expect! I've said before on here - all the best nurses fail first time ;)
