All the time. I know it's part of the job, but this is getting out of hand! On monday I came into work, and it looked like a hurricane passed through after this vet was on call.
Mmmmm.............. working with a lovely male small animal vet who is not married etc etc and lives on his own. He works long hours in my practice so occassionally I take his clothes home to wash them - now when I say that, I mean, scrub tops, trousers, operating gowns etc and occasionally the odd jumper or shirt. I don't mind as I am doing washing everyday anyway with a young family so a few extra bits wont do any harm. I guess I 'mother' him in a way.

However, when it comes to the rest of the vets - I am not so understanding!! I have scolded them for leaving such a mess, leaving dead bodies lying in the kennel, causing havoc generally when they are on call. I am quite understanding a lot of the time but when I feel they are taking the piss so to speak, I dont have a problem telling them about the mess they have caused and getting them to clean it up. I dont have a problem with cleaning up on a general basis but when there is so much blood and crap left lying that was in my view unnecessary - then I will let them know that this is not on.

The vets in my practice know I wont tolerate such disregard for nurses. Maybe it comes with years of experience?!!!

It feels like 3/4 of the time we're clearing up after the vets, and if I pass the drugs trolley everytime I walk in the kennel room and clear it once of syringe wrapping and needle caps, I do it like 50 times a day..does my head in, and they leave the consult rooms in such a tip! rubbish everywhere, the wood's lamp out, the vaccine tray left out...

We had a vet student in the last two weeks and he said that every vet needs a nurse, or at least 2, he watched and saw the mess and caos left by vets.....and thats a vet student.

We did once have a 'tidy vet competition' as they were really taking the mick & not helping to tidy up - a little pathetic, but it seemed to work!!!! They tidiest Vet at the end of the month won a price - I think it was vouchers or a bottle of whiskey. It was great for that month, I have never seen Vets in competition with each other to clean up after themselves...hehe....makes me giggle.

The annoying thing is - when you ask them or tell them to tidy up....they look at you as if to say "but that is your job..." GGgggRRRRR!!

Re: Cleaning up after the vets?

Feet wash better clean however no excuse for not cleaning her footprints.
Could of done with one of those in my last practice!! The vets there were extremely messy. I wouldnt mind but when theyd put things like needles/syringes, vax bottles in a kidney dish instead of the sharps/doop bin which was right nxt to it, it takes the micky a bit!!! Luckily the vets a lot cleaner where i work now, tho same cant be said for the receptionist, who doesnt seem to know what a broom/mop is or how to wash up!! Its only a small practice of a couple of nurses and receptionists so she should be helping do floors etc but has to be virtually harrassed into doing it, drining me mad, sorry rant over!!!

Re: Cleaning up after the vets?

Mmmmm.............. working with a lovely male small animal vet who is not married etc etc and lives on his own. He works long hours in my practice so occassionally I take his clothes home to wash them - now when I say that, I mean, scrub tops, trousers, operating gowns etc and occasionally the odd jumper or shirt. I don't mind as I am doing washing everyday anyway with a young family so a few extra bits wont do any harm. I guess I 'mother' him in a way.
