Yes its very difficult, out of 65 letters I sent out, only 2 were positive and only heard back from one of those which is this one! Training positions ive discovered are rarer than unicorn poo so when you find a possiblility theres always lots of applicants for the same position.

Interview went well i think... im rubbish at being able to tell how it went!! All questions answered and they were smiling not frowning though so thats got to be a good sign surely?

Hopefully I find out my fate tomorrow - will let y'all know when I do... FINGERS CROSSED FOR ME :-)

I'm in the same boat here, giving up my former career, and trying to get experience in a veterinary practice in Ireland before moving to the UK and hopefully getting a training position. Thats great that you can start training in January! I'll be happy enough to get in somewhere with promise of training even if dont start til Sept next year. have heard paid training positions are very difficult to obtain, so well done on getting an interview :-)

Re: Wish me luck!!

Congrats! Hope all goes well tomorrow :)

The vets and nurses in the clinic won't expect too much of you, you will be doing the basic stuff but this can be so helpful to the nurses as sometimes we don't get time to do it! I've had sooo many students in the clinic who don't show initiative and have to be asked everyday to do the same jobs.

Keep yourself busy by keeping on top of the washing, cleaning kennels, and get stuck in to the weeekly/monthly cleaning rota if there is one. Initiative goes a long way!

Let us know how they interview goes! x

Re: Wish me luck!!

Hiya,

Just wanted to say 'Good Luck' as well for tomorrow! I agree with Charmaloo that the first few months will be fairly basic with the cleaning, handling animals and learning how all protocols and the machines etc work. January's not too far off really, and I think it's nicer to start at college with a few month's knowledge under your belt, rather than only hvaing been in practice for a year or so!

So good luck again, and congratulations on following your dream :)

Let us know how it goes...

Had a call this morning that the practice manager has a migraine so interview has been postponed until tomorrow morning :-(

I'm very lucky to have an interview though and going to try my hardest to ensure they hire me!!

Im not afraid of hard graft - or cleaning for that matter, Im just so excited at the prospect of living my dream!!

Will keep you all posted :-)

Re: Wish me luck!!

First things first...congratulations on getting an INTERVIEW as we all know how tricky that first step can be! Secondly if they are willing to enrol you in January thats fantastic, most practices will want at least a years full time work out of you before considering college so fingers crossed for that!

As an SVN you will find they take it slow to begin with, they have to gauge you're experience as you go. You may have experience handling nice pets that know you but it will take time before you can restrain the nice Rottweiler that is 'just smiling at you...there's no need to muzzle him...' as he lunges for your jugular. I'll warn you now first few months will be basic and involves A LOT of cleaning. It's a steep learning curve once you sink your teeth into it, but if you get a good training practice with a good team you will love every minute of it.

Let us know how your interview goes and GOOD LUCK!!
