This year they have gone mental! We're finding the flea products we used to use just aren't having the same effect anymore. Advantix, Frontline, Advocate are pretty much useless here. The only products we find work really well would be for the dogs Practic or Comfortis or Stronghold, and then for cats Stronghold. We also still use an occasional capstar if needed..... we still love that product!

If we get really desperate then we'll sell dog owners Defendog (Virbac)..... fantastic spray, heavy going, stinks to high heaven, and kills cats, but for all these countryside fleas that will not die..... it works a real treat!

Oh and we tried using Certifect too........ kills the fleas really well...... but send dogs a bit doolally!!! Definitely not for sensitive dogs!!

Re: HELP, FLEAS!!!!

Personally, I don't rate Frontline of frontline combo anymore- I have worked in 3 different areas of the UK in the last 18months and increasing numbers of clients are returning and saying that frontline combo isn't working anymore. Had this with my late foster cat as well- changed him to advocate and indorexed the house and never had a problem again.

Re: HELP, FLEAS!!!!

Don't forget to spray your nooks and crannies - fleas are small and love warm, dark humid places to hide. So bathrooms, closets, under and behind refrigerators, in cabinets, wash your bedding and any place your pets sleep in the hottest water their label says it's safe to do; spray after that again.

Remove the cushions on your sofa and spray under that as well.

And you'll want to keep doing monthly flea control for at least six months as you're going to need to run out of flea eggs. (Yes, indorex is supposed to kill flea eggs and I believe it does, but I like 'belt and braces' here)

Good luck!

Re: HELP, FLEAS!!!!

Snap! Same problem here. I rarely treat for fleas and haven't had a flea problem for years then earlier this week the dogs started scratching after a trip to the dog minders and turns out I've got fleas now. I have 2 cats & 3 dogs and I treated them with one generic capstar (Bob Martins) tablet split between them all (£1.20), I ) and a can of Indorex for the house / office /car/ shed. Touch wood - nolonger scratching 24 hours later

Re: HELP, FLEAS!!!!

thanku, need all the help i can get, give out advice to clients, but ive never had a flea problem, its driving me mad, thought id got on top of it, but they are back, was starting to think that acclaim wasnt much good, have now bought raid for fleas, cost me 20 quid will try this now, cant afford to get rentokil in, maybe im just a little impatient!! any tips will be great tho

Re: HELP, FLEAS!!!!

I'm still a fan of using frontline combo - and then using capstar tablets to help starting killing the adult fleas. You just have to give the treatments time to work but also not forgetting the lifestages of the flea - that most house sprays don't do the pupal stages so you will get a breakout again as the pupae hatch. Continue treating all the pets and hoovering (making sure you empty the hoover after each room - If its got a hoover bag a flea collar inside to help kill them in the bag and spraying carpet.

I had this happen to me a few years ago when I let the flea treatment go overdue on the cat - took about a month to get it under control.

Good luck
