To be honest, I have to agree with that, as the sedation dose commonly used really *is* much higher than you need for a decent premed, but that's really wandering off topic. :) (Sorry, that's a pet bugbear of mine. I'll feed him and take him out for a walk now before he gets all naughty!)

[/quote]The best anaesthetic is the one you're most comfortable with. That said, midazolam may have hypotensive effects as well, but as long as the vet knows the history and is familiar with the protocol, the risks are managed. Lots of vets use dozens of protocols and one size doesn't fit all. As you may have noticed, I'm not an ACP fan. :)

I got a letter saying it was back, just finishing up our Calmivet stock, I thought ACP was gone forever. Interesting about the price increase though....

We still use acepromazine, but the Calmivet brand. It's 5mg/ml so it would be weird going back to the old ACP now.

Will have to ask the boss that one, as I ordered a bottle of the acp as soon as it came back but was told to send it back! will ask tomorrow and see what he says.

Just curious, what do you use as a premed for patients with kidney problems? Or, as Fuzzyduck says, patients with heart problems?

Domitor is very risky as a premed especially in cardiac compromised animals. It lowers the heart rate and bp dramatically, i wouldnt want to use it for anything other than routine procedures in young animals.

Yes ACP is back but has jumped from being around £27.00 a bottle to £65 per bottle with Centaur - we wont be going back to it. Going to stick with domitor for premeds

Last price on NVS was about £30 a bottle now it's in the region of £65.

I heard rumours of acp 2mg/ml coming back last month - from a locum vet and again from a nurse at another practice, so far havnt seen it tho. Could try asking your rep (we havnt seen one and I wouldnt even know who ours is these days)
