Ive just been reading previous locum posts on here as I've recently been thinking about locumming. My only issue is, in my current practice the vets do the blood samples and place intravenous catheters for fluid therapy so I have very

Re: Locumming

Cheers guys. Have asked one of the vets to allow me to take blood when were next in theatre :)

I've been locuming now since the start of the year and I'd definately suggest you give it a try. You'll find that each practice has their own ways of doing things which takes a few days to adjust to, but like the previous post said - if you mention that you'd like to have help with IV's etc. then you'll get support. It's in their interest to have you doing things their way, so i'm sure any practice wouldn't have a problem helping you with these things.

If you need any locum tips, drop me a message - I've picked up lots!

After all you have to be able to do this as part of your NPL so you should be doing this if your practice is a training practice.

If the vets still wont let you do it then dont worry when you go to locum just say you havent had much practice and im sure the staff will give you pointers and let you try and it will come with time.

I work in a huge hospital and we are quite used to locums that have come from tiny practices and are not used to doing things which we do all the time so other practices must be used to it as well.
