I have decided to locum for a while and see how things go.
I sent my CV to 9 practices on Friday, and have already had 3 interested in me.

As long as you can agree an wage you are happy with I find agencys may be more able to offer work but obviously the practices do get charged.

Re: Becoming a locum

I was a locum for a short while last year before finding a perm job & was charging £14p/h through an agency.

I think as long as you have an adequate contract between you & the employer then there shouldn't be a problem. Obviously having an agency behind you takes all the stress out of it as they sort all the legal stuff, tax, NI, etc but you then don't earn as much as you could do as they take a cut of your earnings & charge the practice for finding you for them.

I'm not quite sure what you would need to put in the contract as I haven't done it before, but as for nights & weekends, definately charge more

Hope you get on ok xx
