I am an English vet nurse and have been doing it for 6 years now! I spoke to an immigration advisor and she said that I couldn't work as a vet nurse on a working holiday visa and said i would have to do bar work or something . . she said it had to be a skilled visa to work as a vet nurse which is about 5-6k. . . . bit confused now!!??? Not sure if a vet practice will help out with visa fees or something not quite sure how it works . . . can u enlighten me please!

Many thanks

How much did it cost to get to australia (flights/visa/accomodation etc.)? Do you stay in a hotel/hostel or actually rent somewhere?

Im just starting locuming in the UK to hopefully pay off some debts and then can save some money for travelling, at the moment i have a mortgage so would either have to sell my flat (reluctantly) or rent it out. Does anyone have experience of renting out their property whilst living in a different country?

Thanks

Re: Nursing in NZ or Australia --- Your experiences please

If you are over the age of 30 you will struggle to get any kind of visa that enables you to work in Oz or NZ. You can get a tourist visa for up to 6 months but you will not be allowed to work on this. You could volunteer or 'see practice' and help out but working legally if you say you are too old for a working visa is going to be very tricky.

If i have misunderstood this then like the previous poster said finding work out there is easy, locum agencys are good and there is a decent amount of work around. Travelling alone out there is also very easy and you meet heaps of people along the way. Ive travelled alot on my own and was in Oz and NZ for 8 months as a lone traveller and thoroughly enjoyed myself, didnt have any problems at all.

Enjoy!

Re: Nursing in NZ or Australia --- Your experiences please

Hi! Im currently in Australia on a working holiday visa (upto the age of 30) and have been here forthe last 8mths.

Its been great and sooooooooo easy to find work. I found my first job before I arrived in australia by posting a profile on Kookaburra.com.au - this website has been amazing whilst Ive been here!!! you can also search the site for jobs all across australia but believe me if you post a profile and state that you are an english nurse you'll have emails flooding in!!
Ooooh also get in touch with the veterinary universities, they are always looking for casual nurses and pay very well too,

It is more expensive here than in the UK but you get paid double what you would back home which is ace!!
I came here with 500 pounds and as I started work the next day, that lasted until pay day which is usually fortnightly.

I would recommend living in a hostel until you find your feet as you will meet loads of great people and hear their storys/ advise about what to do/ where to go etc.

Ive managed to save so much money whilst being here. met great people, seen the most amazing places, learnt so much within the veterinary profession and grown up alot!!! hehe!

DO IT..... come over in November when its summer again!!! You'll love it for sure!!

Good luck!!
