I opened my own vet practice 5 years ago now and employ the vet. People do business with people they like; go to fairs and meet people; volunteer at popular events, and so on, would be my suggestion...

Re: Setting up your rvn business

I have been looking into this as well. did a leaflet drop round my area but had very little response was quite suprised!

Hi there,

Yep my sister in law is a vn and set up her own buisness , here's the website.

http://www.petnursevisits.com/

She is pretty successful and I think just locumed one or two days a week to suppliment her income. I hope to do something similar or have a specialised nursing hospital at some point in my life. It would be nice to be able to work for ourselves instead of ways having to be under the permission of a vet!

Just grabbing as much exp with locuming and travelling right now then we'll see what the future brings :)

I used to do a lot of pet sitting too but took up too much of my life! You could probably easily pet sit/dog walk with an agency or set up an add on a forum somewhere and then drop down to part time work in practice once you have enough of a client base...

[/quote]

I checked out the link and it looks good but just wondered on the services page on the flea and worming treatments (frontline, drontal, panacur) - is it a case that the owner purchases them from a vet or pharmacy and then the nurse administers them or does the nurse carry their own supply?

Re: Setting up your rvn business

Hi

I'm just in the process of trying to set up my own business - no customers so far but then it's early days - lots more leaflet dropping and advertising to be done! I'm hoping that if things pick up I can expand - get a vehicle and offer taxi services, and afford to set up for microchipping.

Behaviour has never been my forte so I won't be offering that anytime soon - looking more towards the dog walking, cat sitting side of things.

I'd also be interested in mobile vet nurse appointments, but am concerned about how that could be done without access to patient records.

Re: Setting up your rvn business

Hi there,
