We generally use safety cannulas that I get from IMS Euro (I cant remember who makes them), but one vet always preferred the surflo's as she found them easier to put in. Therefore we don't use them as often as our other cannulas so haven't noticed the problem as quickly as we would have otherwise, but this explains the problems we had the other day.

terumo catheters are now surflo due to a change of manufacturer at their end so when ordering terumo thru nvs (not sure about stocks at other suppliers) you get surflo instead

. we ended up swapping to jelco catheters as we were finding we were binning over half the surflo ones as they were either blunt/ kinking or just plain unable to get the cap off!

Are these the surflo cannulas? Yesterday we had three cats that all needed iv fluids and just couldn't get the blue cannulas in on all three patients, but had no problem with a yellow cannula. They seemed to either kink or not feed in very well. Myself and the vet involved assumed she was having a bad vein day, but maybe this wanst the case. I hope if its a batch problem that we dont have any more of them - I only ordered a box of 50 the other day.

Yes! A nurse was just saying yesterday how much trouble the blue catheters have been. Not just for her but for other people too. We never had any bother with them before. We thought that we had a bad batch or something.

We used to use them but i was told by NVS they were discontinued so now we use abbott catheters, not to be confused with abbocath which are different and rubbish! Anyway i find the abbot ones much better than the terumo ones, they always used to kink on me or not feed properly.The abbott ones are fab!
