I know there has been loads of posts about locuming here and Oz but I was wondering if any one new what it was like in NZ. Myself and my boyfriend are hoping to go in sept next year. I think locuming would be a great way to see the country.
i am currently working in a practice in OZ as i went to NZ for 6months and ran out of money as i couldnt find a job in NZ at all!
Luckily OZ are always crying out for UK nurses as 1) its a bigger country, 2) the wage is amazing compared to UK /NZ pay rate! and 3) as you said our qualification is considered a lot higher! ive just finished 5months at a practice north of Sydney to help me fund my travels as i was able to save heaps of money.
I fell in love with NZ so i am visiting it regulary, so please dont be put off going to NZ but I will say it will be a lot easier to find work in OZ

Hope this helps and enjoy your travels!!

Re: Locuming in New Zealand

Hi. I went to NZ with my husband on working holiday visas late last year, but unfortunately we were back after only 5 months! I wasn't able to get a position sorted before we went, as no one would employ someone without meeting them first, and there didn't seem to be as many vacancies as I had expected there to be when we got there. The few vacancies there were I didn't get due to not having enough experience in an NZ practice, as many of them deal with both large and small animal.

It was such a shame as we fell in love with the place! I looked into locuming as I thought it would be a great way to see the whole country, but wasn't very successful in finding agencies or vacancies. It's so frustrating that vet nursing isn't on the list of skilled professions, otherwise it would have been a lot easier!

Hope you have more luck! :)

So I decided not to go in the end. If you have heard anything different please let me know :)
