We get it pretty good at our prractice, anything we order we get at cost price. If any of my dogs have required xrays, ive been able to nip them in and do the xrays myself free of charge. Or if any require surey, we just need to pay cost price for the drugs and consumables.

I wish I was as lucky as some of you guys :o

We pay the same as client prices for everything unless the relevant vet is feeling particularly kind and may not charge us for consult/time.

I think I have it really good. Vaccs are %50 off. Everything else is pretty much free.

Some of your bosses need to be really careful. If you are getting drugs and services at cost price or less then it could be seen as a benefit in kind and should be taxed and have NI applied. Afterall, the boss IS paying for it, even though you aren't. I know this sounds like a minor point but if you are buying all food, toys etc from work as well as getting vet treatment for a few animals it can build up to a significant sum over the whole practice. If Mr tax man came to do an audit it is bound to be something they will check.

It could end up costing quite a lot in unpaid tax, alongside a fine.

Our staff pay cost + 10% of drugs/food etc to get around this, as well as 50% of ops.

We get everything at cost price & VAT and no consult fee. Depending on the op and who does it depends on what gets charged and hospitalisation isn't charged unless your animal is agressive or its receiving critical care o/n My boss can be lovely :)

we get everything at cost price. No consult fee or anything, have also rang my boss out of hours. for ops we work out roughly how much everything cost and just pay for that, my cat castration was £5

My old boss in dover charged drugs and disposables at cost. Op time and consults weren't charged, or occasionally he'd charge literally pennies on the pound if it was something really big. (He's old school. I rather like that.) That said, it was ONLY for staff. Staff relatives got a decent discount, but did have to pay a reasonable amount.

Wow, you get 50% off ops?! We get a flat 10% off everything. Food and toys that we order in, we get at cost price.
