I usually find this quite difficult. I always address cover letters to the person in charge of recruitment/training in a practice, but am unsure how to incorporate a more personal (on both the practice's and my part) statement. Well, without the general "Hi, I like animals and have heard good things about your practice!", anyway!

Exactly! Put someone's name on it; that's a link. You don't need to write individual missives; just don't send off carbon-copies. Check the website; maybe they do a lot of charity work and you happen to admire that. Just a point or two. A CV is about a person. :)

Point being, this is your life! It's worth a little more time than pressing a button on a photocopier!

Yes, and that's where personalizing the letters comes in handy. Sometimes it's as little as addressing it to the name of the practice principal, or mentioning something you'd heard about them or seen on your website. Logically you are right to want to differentiate; but it's important to get the right emotional reaction to get the interview. Cynical? No. People interview because they like what they see. Get your cv to look good and get them to like you.

i have loads of letters and they all sound the same, something that makes someone stand out as determined is what might get you an interview over the others.

well i spent 6 hours driving round lancashire and managed to deliver 22 out of 39. Wigan/ Liverpool tomorrow then back to the drawing board to look at practices in the manchester and surrounding areas. Bonus was i never run out of petrol , didmt spend any money and i only used 1/4 tank of diesel in 6 hours woohoo :) xx

personally i would make a note on envelope that they are practice number ? out of 40 you are delivering too - this would make you stand out and be more memorable when you letter is added to the pile of others. sorry that sounds negative, hence the make yourself stand out comment becaue if it was me, your dedication would mean a lot.
