She is afraid of them and worried about her baby (yes, I know!)
She's asking how she can keep them out her house. I suggested 'Get off my Garden' but having actually found out what it is, I don't think it'll help

Re: Cat deterrants
I've told my OH I am going nowhere near the litter trays once I am pregnant!
Fresh cat faeces is not infective. You'd be better protected by not handling (or eating, obviously) any raw meat and no gardening. They are going to be a much higher risk ...

Re: Cat deterrants

I am a bit paranoid re toxoplasmosis... My lovely friend is pretty much blind in one eye due to the infection.

The problem only appeared shortly after her 17th birthday, having been dormant in her body.

Her Mum had cats whilst she was pregnant...

Remind her that while anywhere from a third to a half of the world's population may have a toxoplasma infection, she should remember that this is essentially the population of Africa as well as regions in Asia with no modern healthcare or hygiene. (This is the same billion people who don't have good prenatal care, vaccination, and clean, healthy food.)

The incidence of toxoplasma in developed countries is low. Sufferers commonly have compromised immune systems. If she would like to get a Toxoplasma IgM and IgG test, this will tell if she has ever been exposed to toxoplasma.

Good luck! :)

Re: Cat deterrants

Ok l know someone is going to shoot me for this if they understand it but l can not resist the following comment...

I dont know anything that would deter them other than if she catches one in her house maybe spray it with a water pistol or similar and i doubt it will come back.

Otherwise if she is that paranoid, keep all doors and windows closed or only open them enough so they cant get in.

Sounds a bit like a major paraniod pregnant person to me!!
