I agree Tracey,

You can always learn from your experiences and maybe she was either trying too hard or not being professional, as you say there is more than one side.

Though it would be better if they could have given good examples of the issues and worked with her a bit longer, 1 month isn't very long.

I think there's either more to this than meets the eye, or there was a severe clash of personalities. Maybe they have had bad luck with some awful students and are not prepared to give another one the chance if they don't prove themselves straight away, OR they have been really spoilt and the last student picked things up incredibly quickly, so they were expecting the same?

Judging this from one person's perspective is a little unfair on the employer. I've only ever come across one practice where some staff would treat students in this way. It could be that they are a bunch of sh1ts, in which case, you're best out of there and count your blessings it was short-lived, as places like that (as you have found out) can drain your confidence and if you stick it out, you could end up bitter and twisted just like they are, with a distorted view of what training should be like. I think the best way forward is to assume there was a severe clash of personalities and **try** not to dwell on this bad experience too much.

Sorry to hear about your situation just picked up on the thread. It sounds like a horrible situation for yourself, however you may find it wasn't anything in particular you did, it can come down to personalities. I have been a few places were there would be a perfectly good nurse, good at their job and fulfilling there role, but due to the fact they didn’t get on with the head nurse, vet, receptionist, cleaner... whoever has some influence, they were let go or left.

It always seems to work out better, even if you manage to keep them happy, you don't feel valued or like your ever quite good enough, one nurse I know stuck it out for 9 years and now she is somewhere else is so much happier, in herself and her job. Her bad feelings were spilling into her life outside of work and she hated it.

It's hard now, but I like to think things happen for a reason and you need to look at it as life experience and think of the things you can learn form it. You may find yourself acting differently with new colleges or attempting things with a new approach. It's all part of the great lesson of life.

I know I do things very differently from when I first started training and I do look back at that time and cringe at myself

Good luck and you will find somewhere better for you that fits and will give you everything you need and your efforts are appreciated!!!

dust yourself off and look for another position they are out there just that they need a bit of looking for sometimes

No the college didnt find me the placement. They offered me the job, i applied for it myself. I just keep going over it over and over thinking where i went wrong and what to do next

did you get the placement through a college? if so, they should be helping you and also making sure they don;t use that practice again after that ridiculous excuse

I'd frankly agree that you're better off looking elsewhere - this is certainly an unusual reason to give a student! On the other hand if you and they really weren't on the same wavelength it's probably better this way. Good luck with the next job!

OK that has to be the WORST reason I've ever heard. A student is there to get taught, I mean I could see if you were almost qualified and they were having to teach you loads.

One bright side to look at, is you could now try and get into a practice that are actually willing to teach you.

I am so sorry - you must be feeling gutted at the moment. Did they give a reason? What did they say? It sounds a bit soon for a practice to give up on a new student nurse :(

I am sure the others on here will give you lots of advice / support. Don't give up on being a nurse - you will get there!

i know this sounds bad but i honestly think if you only been there for a couple of weeks and they are treating you like this and not giving you the support to learn, blossom and correct your mistakes they are not worth working for !!!!. Most jobs give a 3-6 month trial period unless something drastic has happened to warrant earlier dismissal. They sound like they have shaken you to the core !!! i know its ur dream as is mine , but can you work for someone who makes you feel like this without justification ???? xx

ill be having a meeting with them next week. i feel sick to my stomach thinking i could lose this job. my confidence has plummeted and im unsure of myself.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. The only thing I would add is to have somebody there who is acting on your behalf. Not that they are 'on your side' as such, just that they are objectively working for you and to ensure you are given a fair go. Ideally it should be someone senior(ish). They should then be able to support you afterwards.

Have you just sat down with them and asked them to explain what their issues are? That way, you will know what the issues are and try to resolve them.

If not, as things aren't improving, I suggest you just ask for a meeting and make them tell you the reasons why they aren't happy with you and go from there. You aren't a mind reader at the end of the day even if they (esp vets) expect us to be!

I always find that I will pause at the end of every task, even momentarily (just don't look like your day-dreaming!) and go through in my head if there's anything I've forgotten. I also do this at the end of the day. Were there any messages I forgot to write down? Have I called everyone I am supposed to? Has everything been priced up? If you feel like you might have forgotten something- you usually have!

Make sure they don't start assuming you'll be in early every day. Although as long as you're putting it towards your hours, I suppose it's alright. Basically just make sure you won't get taken advantage of.
