Animals going to france dont have to have a blood test, i took mine without and it wasnt questioned

On that link it also states that the animal had to have a blood test! Why is france different from other EU countries?

Below is a quote from DEFRA website:

Under the EU pet movement system, all pet dogs, cats and ferrets moving between EU Member States must meet the same animal health rules. All pets travelling from the UK to another EU Member State should be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies and accompanied by a pet passport.
It is recommended that pet owners contact the competent authorities of the country they are travelling to for any additional entry requirements.

When I was in normal practice I always advised clients to look into the various countries requirements well in advance of travelling as they could be different to ours

Hmm can understand that as that was coming back into our country so they should have known that and informed clients of it

Its always been 21 days before you can leave the UK,

And agree its up to clients to find out what the country they are visiting requires. I always tell clients to do their own research. There are too many countries with many different rules for us to memorise and advise on all of them.

Yes we advise people on what they need to get BACK to the UK but not for where they're going to, again we would point them to the visiting countrie's DEFRA equivalent.... so that we don't give out wrong or out of date information.

Thanks for the heads up though I will bear it in mind if people are out of date on normal vacc rather than just Rabies. :-)

we always tell clients to research themselves what the countries they are going to/through say so that we can't get it wrong!

Well, 'tis not DEFRA's job to keep tabs on the import requirements of other countries, only the import requirements of the UK. If you check France's agricultural ministry or French Embassy, for instance, they have no information on importing pets into the UK.

So yes, plan ahead and research both arrival and departure countries.
