He was the only kitten I ever bred, my one and only attempt. Free mummy cat + free mating = boy cat I have kept and cost a lot in vet bills!

Not that I'd have him any other way! Been told by another breeder friend who I'd helped out, that she'd consider selling me a show cat cheap so I could get out there and show. Not taken her up on the offer as these 2 don't like other cats, and living in a 1 bed flat isn't ideal to be filled with 100 Bengal cats....*sigh* maybe one day....

Re: Bengal Cats and Vaccinations......

my they were tubbers!! lol but Very cute!!! lovely marble :D We're thinking of putting Erbsli with a snow this winter! hoping for some silver lynx snows! :D feel free to drool over this past years litter though if you'd like! www.nekosushibengals.com

Re: Bengal Cats and Vaccinations......

I'm afraid I'm a bengal nut case, having worked for the breeders long before I started nursing!

Yes, Bengal's were an experiment, done crossing an Asian Leopard Cat and domestic cats to see if the ALC's natural immunity to FeLV could be carried into the domestic cat. The funding for this research fell flat, and Jean Mill happened to see the striking ALC looks and markings in the domestic cat kittens hence the birth of this wonderful breed!

My terrible two are vaccinated every year. I have them Cat Flu, Enteritis and Leuk vaccinated every year as standard, although my boy-cat had a vaccination reaction 1 year and now can't be given a subcut injection (mostly coz he sees the needle and goes crazy, needle phobia just like me) And if they need bloods its safer for other members of staff if they are sedated (again, boy-cat has to be kept on gas as he loves to wake up suddenly and run off the table!)

I love Bengal cats, they have to be my fav, not only because I have 2 of my own, but for their beauty, and purrrr-sonality! Believe it or not, there are well behaved bengals that visit vets, but most just need a firm, confident hand and you can have a handleable cat.

Below are my 2 Babies, my boy is a blue-eyed snow marble and my female is a Brown (black) Spotted. If he was better behaved (and not ill all the time ), he would have been a show bench cat!

They are both a bit skinnier now, they were living the great life with my parents! Now they are on diets (they hate it!)

I own a bengal and she is vaccinated. All of the breeders I know all vaccinate and enforce proper snap kit testing before breeding, some are even being tested for heart conditions as well. A lot of bengals do however have poor response and reactions to the Pentofel mix. I find the Tricat/Felv to be much more successful and with less 'runny bums' involved. Someone is trying to pull the wool over this persons eyes saying they do not need vaccinations. I also have heard some of the Savannah imports have been having some really bad reactions to the vaccs and can not handle the live vaccines.

Re: Bengal Cats and Vaccinations......

yes i do always recommend vaccination as i said in my original post. and yes i do know that just because they are a house cat it doesnt stop them getting sick!

Re: Bengal Cats and Vaccinations......
i think that maybe we dont see so many sick unvaccinated bengals because often they are just house cats.
I do know that some owners think that just because a cat is a 'house cat' that it does not have to be vaccinated and that it cannot catch any diseases as it is not comming into contact with other cats!!

Also Charlotte do you ask new customers if their cat is vaccinated if they bring their cat in due to another problem? I have been told many times by owners that they take their cat to the vet if it is ill but have never been recommended to get their cat vaccinated!! and surprised that we will not board their cat without it being vaccinated.

I have to say im a bit sceptical about being "naturally immune" I always recommend vaccinating bengall or not. but i have heard some breeders saying that live vaccines should be used as they react to the normal vaccination. However I know alot of people who have bengalls and vaccinate them as normal and have no problems, also i think that maybe we dont see so many sick unvaccinated bengals because often they are just house cats.
