I'm afraid I'm not knowledgable about the Napier course; so I can't comment on them as I organize CAW's Short Courses from Huntingdon. That said I've always gotten on well with the CAW staff in Edinburgh Centre, glad your friends are enjoying it!

Thanks Mark, I'm not sure whether it was the CAW staff or Napier staff, it really was a poorly organised course but I know 2 girls currently doing the CAW diploma in Edinburgh who seem to be getting on fine :)

I did block release for my second year (a bit back now) and my first year was done as a day release (even further back). of the two my preference would be block release it is intense to be sure but the plus point is you are away from the practice and not worrying about a million and half other things you may need to do when you get back later that day or what you may have to have done for the next day, you just concentrate on the course. Saying that day release is good for learners that need to spend a bit more time and is definitely more convenient for the practice as it is easier to cover a persons work for a day among existing staff than to arrange cover for a block which could work out expensive on top of what they are already paying out on the training

My 1st year was done at Milton - dont know if they still do it but the pass results there at the time were excellent (early 90's) and my 2nd year was at Myerscough when it was still in the old building

Myerscough all the way!! Campus is nice, all tutors were nice, great libary and great pub at end of road!!! I did block release. And they have the best exam success rates more importantly!!!

Also, meant to add that I'm from Scotland so stay at college during block release, it's pretty easy to get to - Preston's a decent sized train station with good links and a taxi to college takes about 25 mins. You'll find there will be people from all over the country and the majority stay at college for the 2 weeks :)

I'm just going into my 2nd year block release at Myerscough and having had bad experiences with CAW (I started on the degree route at Napier - total shambles in my opinion!) can safely say that the teaching is exemplary and the staff are brilliant, they all genuinely care about the students and it's clear that they want everyone to pass. Block release is hard work but I reckon it's worth it and I'm finding it a much better way to get my qualification :) Good luck with whatever you decide to go for! Oh, also a friend of mine studied at Hartpury and enjoyed it but said it was very equine/sport related and if choosing again she would probably go elsewhere.

Haha...like Mark said - I kind of like where I work (Myerscough if you didn't know)! Block release is intense by nature chuck, but just as good as day release really a different way! We don't have any significant differences in pass rates etc between the different delivery methods. You just need to decide which you think would be better for you and your practice really :-) If you want to chat about the differences (or my perception of it at least) just give me a call - 01995 642222 ext 2052 is my work number!

PS...thanks to all of you ex- and/or current Myerscough students in this thread for your kind words about your experience at the College. We do try our best to keep you all happy, and entertained!! I'm glad you all seem to have enjoyed yourselves whatever course you have done - I do!!! I absolutely love it (to the point of being consumed by it, which I don't think is healthy ALL of the time - oh well).

I trained in ProCo Wigan and Chester Gates Nursing School in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire (through Myerscough).

ProCo Wigan are very good and very friendly, where Chester Gates Nursing School is connected to a refferal hospital so has the facilities.

Theres also Harper Adams in Staffordshire/Telford?

I Went to Lite college based in Stockport.. Had a top tutor and didn't want to leave! So if its accessible I would recommend it

I don't know where you are based, but Rodbaston is in Staffordshire and as far as I'm aware, they still do day release. Also Reaseheath are awaiting acreditation to start their course. They are South Cheshire. If you tell us where you are based, we might be able to be more useful?

ProCo in Wigan really good, friendly family-feel college. Do day release, unsure if they have also offer day release. Really get individual training as have small groups

Ive been told by a friend that hartpury is very equine and sport orientated and she didnt go there because of that, also with it being day release it would mean over a 2 hour drive for me every week so im abit put off about going there now.

think my choice will be between Meyscough and Abbeydale :)

does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions on block or day release? is there a huge difference in how the course is delivered/work loads etc or is there no real difference? im not sure which would be the better option... Meyscough would be a 4 hour journey each way but id do 4 blocks of 2 weeks in the year, where as Abbeydale is only 1hr 20mins away from me but its day release.

I went to Hartpury to do the degree so I'm not 100% about placements - It was ok but the facilities aren't brilliant, the tutors weren't amazing (they changed yearly as they couldn't keep the staff) and the focus of the college is on sport and equine.. I don't know how much that will affect the diploma but you noticed a difference when there day in day out.

Two of the girls I'm in practice with travel to Monmouth to do theirs and their lecturers sound amazing and they know what they are talking about - the two Kirstie's are both examiners so they are very up to date and thorough with their teaching

I didn't go to any, although I hear myerscough are very good - almost went there to do a degree but got offered a placement last minute, The place lookd really good though :)

I sat my exam at Myerscough and compared to where I trained it was amazing! Great facilities and nice campus, staff were very friendly and helpful also.

I haven't been to any of these colleges but have heard good reports from Myescough. They have been training for years.

where r u based? If your south west then there is also Norton Radstock college, I trained here. Im training at Myerscough now for my Dip HE CVN and the tutors are amazing, also they have a very good reputation for VN training.

I went to Myerscough, the campus is lovely, as are the tutors. I enjoyed it and we had people from all over the country on my course and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

It's great if you can drive there but you can get a taxi from Preston train station quite easily as well.

I'm hoping to go back to do the Dip AVN in Sept
