So I officially return to the UK on the 2nd of June alongside my Cayman Kitty! I just wanted to know if you have any suggestions on anything I could give him to calm him in his flight kennel. I have tried zylkene and feliway in the crate

Re: Pet Travel

Hey,

Thanks for your post back, I think i'm just being a paranoid owner lol but i'll def do what you have suggested. I like your suggestion about the ice cubes!! Well the airport cargo are allowing me to stay with him until 1hr before the flight which i'm happy about, i'm hoping he will be more settled with me there. And yes....a strong pair of ear plugs and a glass of wine I think is what will be required for me :-) haha

Re: Pet Travel

If they panic then they panic they will settle down but better to have
wits with them than dead or with major psychological problems. Use
zyzlazene and feliway they will have an effect. Have sent several
hundred dogs and a lot of cats to Germany for rehoming when in Tenerife
and we went by those guidelines (except for the zyzlazene and feliway
they didnt exist then) we never lost any animal they settled down well
once at the destination. I know for a fact the other rescue groups who
did sedate did lose animals to death and that the advice used to be and l
am sure still is never sedate

Keep on with the moving practice but never use any sedation it causes death in flight. With sedation the blood pressure drops add that to the fact their bp will be lower at altitude you have the biggest cause of death in animals that are flown anywhere. Sedation can also have the opposite effect they begin to panic there is no reasurance/observation and they end up hyperasthetic and major problems there. Under no circumstances use acp all that does is hold them still they are still aware of all going around them thats why it is contra indicated for bonfire night.

For water cut the bottom off a plastic milk bottle and freeze the water in there then attach it to the inside when he is loaded. Means shouldnt slosh out when being moved about to the plane and on take off but he can lick the ice if he wants also if he does panic which would likely be at the start he wont end up soaking wet.

On the base shredded paper rather than a blanket. It absorbs any spills when the water thaws and sloshes out. It will soak any urine, Faeces will tangle and stick in it easily. it is warm and comfy

If you wanted put one of your t shirts in it is small enough to keep out the way, a blanket will end up wet and soggy and never behaves like the comments on the news paper

Errmm and for you... earplugs?

Re: Pet Travel

I tried zylkiene, kalmaid and feliway as a combination when i transported mine and found it did nothing.

I also tried Xanax which made them about a zillion times worse and am glad i only tested it on them when i had time as there is no way i could have left them on it, they were a danger to themselves so i wouldnt reccommend that either!!

In the end i gave them acp which worked brilliantly! Obviously not ideal tho but unfortunately i never found a better alternative
