Just thought I would share my exciting news. I recently took part in a black belt grading session in a style of karate known as Shotokan. It was hard, tough, painful and very tiring, but I did it and I am now a very proud black belt

Re: I'm now a black belt in Karate :-)

Hi Laura,

I don't mind you asking at all as i'm proud of where i train. It's a small club in Warwickshire and he is called Sensi Neil. He's a 3rd dan. Here is a link, the site is under development at the moment, it should be up and running in a few weeks.

So hopefully there will be more of a chance for me to get back into training soon! And beating up the guys is a definite perk :P I shall try to get back into it very soon! Where about's do you train if you don't mind me asking, and who is your sensei? :)

Re: I'm now a black belt in Karate :-)

I also had a break whislt working in a full time job whichmeant I couldn't commit to it, result 5 years of no training. I started it again at 23 years old, went to a few clubs ( some instructors just wanted money, which I could not afford) found a lovely club now, been training with him for 2 years, started his club as a 1st kyu, as that was my current grade, after much training and painful kumite sessions later I got my black belt. I am going to countiue in this style and carry on grading right up until my body says I can't do it anymore.

I love how it makes me feel, I enjoy beating up the guys LOL and funnely enough, I don't mind the bruises. It's a amazing sport, and finally after 8 years, from when I restarted, it has paid off, woo hoo

Carry on with it Laura, they need more girls in the world of Shotokan

Re: I'm now a black belt in Karate :-)

Ouch! I'll try and remember that! I think I'll be alright though, my step dad was (is) the Sensei :P I once dislocated my toe during kumite... Painful times!

Re: I'm now a black belt in Karate :-)

Laura, if you have a break from karate, just don't do what i did and end up with a literal break!

I didn't do it for ten years after uni then went back in my 30s. My brain was 'ah yes, I remember this, simple' as I was sparring with a black belt ten years my junior... Sadly my body had aged a bit and wasn't quite up to it. Result: over-enthusiasm led to a broken wrist. Ouch!

Re: I'm now a black belt in Karate :-)

Congratulations! Who did your grading (the sensei I mean!). I have done Shotokan Karate since I was 11, and passed my Shodan back in 2008 - I haven't had chance to train much since doing my A Levels and being at uni - but I know that Karate will always be there if I ever to decide to continue once I qualify and graduate! Having done this style of karate myself, i can appreciate and understand the effort you must have put in, so well done! Enjoy your new belt!

Re: I'm now a black belt in Karate :-)

Thanks everyone

Re: I'm now a black belt in Karate :-)

Well done!!!!!
