Canine Prostate Awareness Month ran for the first time in November 2011 and should be running again this year. To register your interest please email CPAM@virbac.co.uk and you will be contacted clsoer to the time to see if you wish to take part. Over 400 practices took part last year and we had great feedback from people saying that it was good to have soething different, and good to highlight prostate hyperplasia in dogs as it is so common and underdiagnosed because the signs are not obvious. Other reported that whilst they may have only picked up a couple of cases of BPH, seeing older dogs for a checkup enabled them to pick up various other conditions of old age. If you take part you will get waiting room poster, client leaflets, postcards for mailouts, a pro forma press release for local press, and we will be promoting in national press too. I hope to be able to provide CPAM dog leads again whereby you can offer these to clients FOC when they bring in their older dog for a checkup.

Generally re waiting room displays, we ran a promotion for a dental merchandising kit a while back to make a notice board display - not associated with a particular period of time. If you wanted one of those please let me know and I'll find out if we have any left! Only suitable if you are using Virbac dental products though as it includes pictures of our products so will encourage clients to ask for those - not much use if you don't stock them!

Cheers

At my practice we usually do the above, plus fireworks for the month running up to Bonfire Night, something about poisoning/toxicity for Easter, and toxicities plus foreign bodies and pancreatitis for Christmas. That being said, the popular display at our branch surgery at the moment is one I knocked up about the changes to PETs and the new rabies/passport requirements (or reduction thereof!), which a lot of people were asking about. We also have a big display on insurance and, over at the main surgery, one of the other nurses does a regular Pet of the Month where we highlight an interesting case; previous ones have included a Weimeraner with a fractured foot, a cat that dieted from 9kg(!!) to actual-cat-sized, and a cat with caudal spinal deficit after a tail-pull injury.

Re: Display Boards

There is a dental care month in June run by Pedigree:

I think pet smile month is September, although I'm also sure that rabbit awareness week is September. We used to do poisonings (esp. chocolate) around Easter time, parasites at the start of the Summer, pet insurance at some point, fireworks in October..... and now I'm officially blank!

Hope that helps a little!
