I have a student who needs to clean theatre after an infected case. We don’t tend to see many cases that I would class as infected and just wanted to know what you would do differently from a deep clean, as my student is competent at this.

I think we will just have to do stimulation. We dont take abscess's or dentals in to theatre so unfortunatly cant use them.

Re: NPL vn 11

i have covered this area before with a student, you could either do something like cleaning theatre after use on an unvaccinated animal as technically they could cause infection??? or use a simulation. we deep clean theatre after use dispite if infectious case or just a cat spay, so the technique would be the same.x

Re: NPL vn 11

We also use dentals as infected cases as well as abcesses - although we are lucky enough to have a dirty ops room.

Re: NPL vn 11

If a 'deep clean' is the practice protocol for cleaning after an infected case then I would say that you could confirm competency explaining your reasoning in the comments section. I think the purpose of this task is to ensure that all bases are covered. For example, not all disinfectants will kill parvo virus so the practice may have a protocol in place that involves using a different disinfectant for these cases. If you are happy that the student is competent then sign her off.

Alternatively you could do a simulation by getting the student to demonstrate how she would clean theatre following a parvo case for example.

Good luck x

I also simulated a 'case' and had an abscess to clean up after (I was desperate by this point). If you have a wound breakdown you could possibly include this. To your point of whats different to a deep clean? Nothing really, from what I understand its just so you have case identifiers that can be traced back

Hope this helps
