Hello everyone

thanks for all the advice!! I have been offered a job at a training practice!!! It mainly reception work 30hrs a week, I thought it was a really good opportunity but the problem is ive looked in to lite ltd and reaseheath college and they both say i need to be in the animal care assistant role to view cases. Would it be possible to volunteer extra time to my new job to be able to make up the hours for the vet nursing???

more advice needed please you have all been so helpful

Well, you've got your foot in the door - ask your new employers if you'd be allowed to help out with the animal care in addition to your duties...my old boss had that happen and he didn't say no! It doesn't mean an animal care job, but if you show yourself willing and competent, he might be willing to have you transfer to being an animal care position instead of reception later on. And of course, the important bit that you've got a job...not a bad thing these days!

Kind regards,

At 23 you won't be eligible for Government funding as this applies to people who are 19 and under with no Level 3 qualifications (e.g. A Levels). However, you may still be able to obtain bursaries from the BVNA or even Colleges themselves.

Are you employed in a veterinary practice? If you wish to train via the diploma route then you must be employed in a training practice. Very often, practices will fund student training and pay for exams etc. Do bear in mind that it's not just tuition fees that you need to pay but also the costs of enrollment with the RCVS, exam fees, etc.

If you meet the entry requirements then you could train via the degree route. This way you would not need to be employed in a practice and you will be eligible for student finance. This way, you will not have to front the costs upfront as your loans will cover this but you will be paying these back for a long long time!

Re: finacial help

I've just had a look at the article on the BVNA bursaries and the "announcement" is announcing them being available, so you could apply for them now? Have a look at the news section on the front page of this site.

Re: finacial help

If you do a degree training you'll get student finance - that pays your tuition fees and gives you a loan for living expenses

It isn't a sure thing, but sometimes you'd be surprised what you might qualify for. Plus, at the same time they can help you work out just how much money vn training costs...going for a foundation degree? Diploma? Bsc (Hons)? Each are good ways of becoming an RVN - each one is a little different, but each one may have different support, might qualify for different loans, and so on. Good luck!
