The signature isn't actual proof of consent though, as I understand it, you still have to make sure the owner actually understands what they're signing and have given informed consent - if they don't understand it the signature doesn't mean anything, it's just a bit of evidence you have, not legally binding. That's my understanding anyway, if it ever came to a court case or more likely the RCVS.

Yeah, I've heard this before. We don't put X's by it for that reason...

When I signed the deeds for my house the solicitor had put a cross on the form!!!

hehe, I thought of this post today when I had to sign a form during a visit to hospitalk outpatients!! The 'x' was written in pen by the nurse showing me where to sign!!

Dont know the legalities of this though but would be really interesting to find out.

Not too sure about this as I've previously seen an X or an arrow marking where to sign on various documents. Maybe it makes more of a difference if the X is already printed on the form so it doesn't look as though its been tampered??
