I am about to go to africa to work with cheetahs and other less dangerous wildlife and having massive problems getting travel insurance that covers this. I'm sure many of us do this so there must be companies out there that cover vet

Re: overseas volunteering travel insurance

Hi there,

I went to South Africa and was insured with Worldwide Travel Insurance. They were recommended to a friend by a specialist wildlife conservation travel company. At the time Worldwide Travel offered various levels of conservation project insurance.

I think I paid about £80 for 8 weeks cover.

I have contacted go walkabout as it seemed the most logical but even they are being very difficult, saying they have to check with their underwriters even though they advertise cover for the veterinary profession.

I'm still waiting to hear back from them. any other company suggestions? Is good to know they've covered another nurse for almost the exact same thing so if they turn me down i'll be having words.

Is it Cheetah Outreach you are going to help by any chance?

I went last year and took out insurance with Go Walkabout. They do a lot of the insurance with the WVS too, so are good with animal stuff.

Give them a call, I found them to be really helpful when i called for help last year! I think it was about £85 for 7 weeks, something like that anyway.

Good luck with it :)
